Since the beginning of the pandemic last March, the Itxaropen Basque Club in Saladillo has offered itself and has put its clubhouse at the disposition of authorities in the fight against COVID-19. Classes are part of the Euskara Munduan Program managed by the Etxepare Basque Institute and will take place at the Cervantes Institute in the capital city. According to enrollment the traditional three levels of classes will open, that is Beginners on Mondays, Intermediates on Tuesdays and Advance students on Wednesdays. Researchers Alberto Irigoyen and Xabier Irujo, specialists in the Basque Diaspora, announced today the oldest text found to date in an American press. It is a notice signed by the political and police chief of Montevideo José Antuña published on September 4, 1842, 178 years ago. Until now, another text published in 1843 also in Montevideo, had that distinction. Both researchers explain their find in the following article.

Next Sunday, as every first Sunday in September on Labor Day Weekend, a holiday in the US, the Chino Basque Club would have held its annual Basque Picnic that was cancelled, as were practically all Basque face-to-face festival gatherings this year.
