The Basque atmosphere continued full force in Boise, transformed more than ever into a Basque province thanks to Jaialdi. Basques in the United States is a biographic research project on the Basques who emigrated to the western US, driven by Koldo San Sebastian. It was published in two volumes, where there are names of over 10,000 people who traveled to the US to make a living, including place of origin, photos and numerous biographical data.

The World Mus Championships will take place this year in Argentina, in the city of Mar del Plata organized by the local Denak Bat Basque club. The 38th edition of the competition will run for a week where participants will not only play cards, but also have the opportunity to visit and get to know some of the more touristic destinations in the area.

The kick off for Jaialdi 2015 took place on Tuesday with music in the streets and various activities. The Basque Block became a hive of people and hugs and greetings among old friends. Jone Goirigolzarri Garaizar (Getxo, Basque Country, 1984) will participate, on July 30, in the Basque Studies Symposium in Boise, Idaho as part of the Jaialdi 2015 program. She will present her recently defended Doctoral Thesis there as well as catch up with friends, while staying with the Asueta’s−a Basque-American family with deep roots in Reno and beyond. “I’m very excited to being back here; I wrote the PhD project at the CBS in UNR, so coming back to present my thesis is like closing a cycle,” she said, in conversation with EuskalKultura.com.

The Euskel Biotza Basque club in Roldan, in the Argentine province of Santa Fe, has begun a very original and interesting idea. Aimed at people getting to know their roots and more about the local Basque club activities, club dancers sent 300 letters to neighbors with Basque last names. The plan, “Basques of Roldan Door to Door” was more than a success and many of the people contacted will participate in this Sunday’s San Ignacio festivities.

There has been a change this year on the Jaialdi board; after successfully organizing the event six times, Dave Eiguren passed the baton to the new generation. Jeremy Malone is one of the visible heads of Jaialdi 2015 as the events co-director.

Jaialdi 2015 is finally here, the seventh edition since its beginning in 1987. EuskalKultura.com has delved into the Jaialdi program and parallel activities during this week in Boise and has provided a summary with links to the most inviting events, if you are in Boise, or to be able to follow the action from wherever you are. The Euskal Etxea in Havana, originally known as the Basque-Navarre Charity Association, celebrated its 138th anniversary on July 12 with an even that was open to members and friends. The festivities took place at the Palacio de la Rumba in Havana and was attended by nearly 300 people. During the evening, the Basque club named anthropologist, William Douglass, from the Center for Basque Studies in Reno, US as an honorary member.

With the arrival of youth from the Basque Country, the 2015 edition of the Hator Hona exchange program supported by the city of Necochea Euzko Etxea dantzaris, has begun. As part of the event, gusts will teach workshops on various themes and will also participate in the San Ignacio events next week.
