The San Jose that sunk in Colombia was constructed in Gipuzkoa and launched in 1698 in Pasaia

In this way, destiny will unite these names forever thousands of kilometers from their original port very few decades apart.

The San Jose that was sunk by English cannons in 1708, in the middle of a bloody battle for the fortune aboard.  Another fight this time a legal one, is taking place three centuries later around the galleon and its booty of gold and silver coins and various jewels, worth nearly 17,000 million dollars that is guarded in its underbelly.  This article was published in the Diario Vasco by Elena Viñas.

Etxepare and the EKE provide the possibility of downloading the book “Basque Classical Music” also in French

Thanks to the collaboration of the Basque Cultural Institute (Euskal Kultur Erakundea – EKE) and the Etxepare Basque Institute, you can now download and online version in three languages (Basque, French and English) of the book Basque Classical Music. Written by Professor at the University of the Basque Country, Karlos Sanchez Ekiza, the book provides a tour through the history of Basque classical music.  The book was translated into French by Kattalin Totorika.  Other titles in the collection EuskalKultural Saila can also be downloaded.

Published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country, 2015 Basque Club and Federation grants

The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV-EHAA) published the Basque Government’s Resolution for grants awarded to Basque clubs and federations in 2015 as well as applications in reference to Chapter IV (operating expenses, and activity organization), as well as Chapter VII (infrastructure and equipment expenses), on December 24 for a total budget of 782,307 Euros.  Applicants now have a month from the day after its publication to appeal, if they feel appropriate, to the Secretary General of Foreign Action.

Little by little, slowly but surely, overcoming with determination and good humor all the potholes in the road, we have almost reached the end of 2015.  Now it is Christmas with the New Year around the corner.  EuskalKultura will celebrate its 15th year in 2016.  Seems like yesterday and 15 years have passed.  We don’t know how but we’ll put something together to mark these 15 years and to share the memories.  For today, dear reader, not many words, but expressed from the heart to wish you Zorionak! Euskanta 2015: The Rome Basque club creates songs with people from an occupational center…In Basque!

Besides recording songs, the participants in Euskanta also created the designs for the books

The Associazione Cultural Euskara in Rome has a special relationship with music and Basque, two facets that they often combine in their activities.  That is what this club that just won the 2015 ENE award did in a project that is now celebrating its 6th edition.  Until now, the stars of this idea have been children, but this year, the singers/producers were members of an occupational center in Lanuvio, in a town in the area.  Do you want to hear the songs?  Keep reading!

Utah-ko Triskalariak to close this year at the EVE WinterFest, while looking forward to an exciting 2016

The dancers of the Utah-ko Triskalariak will participate in the EVE WinterFest for the first time ever. This multicultural event will take place, between the 29th and the 31st of December, in different locations of Salt Lake City. The Basque-American group will perform for an hour, at the Salt Palace, on the first day, starting at 8:00 p.m. “We’re very honored and excited,” said dance instructor Cirbie Sangroniz, in conversation with EuskalKultura.com.

Carmelo Urza has dedicated his entire life to providing American students the possibility of studying abroad.  With an undergraduate degree from Boise and a Ph.D. in Spanish, he has directed USAC, based in Reno, for more than thirty years.

On December 5 a group of Basques in the southwest of the United Kingdom gathered to official present the Bristol Euskal Etxea, the second Basque club in the country.  At an official event the board of directors was elected and they also voted on the finalists in the logo contest that included several entries on Facebook.
