The Corpus Christi Basque club in Argentina launches the 8th edition of “Amazing Stories,” with May 31 as the deadline

The Basque club continues firm in its work, and year after year each project gets stronger.  Thanks to this its Basque Festival continues along with its International Literary Contest “Amazing Stories” organized by the Basque Club's Atahualpa Yupanqui Library.  The 2016 edition of the contest has already begun and the Basque club has published the rules.  Deadline to submit works is May 31 and awards will be presented in July as part of the Culture Festival.

“Amama,” “Jai Alai Blues” and “Gure Sorlekuaren Bila” win the Barcelona Golden Txapelas at the 10th Zinemaldia.Cat

The last edition of the Basque film festival, Zinemaldia.Cat, concluded yesterday, organized by the local Basque club with a gala where award winners of the Golden Txapela were announced. The winners in the various categories were the film Amama, and documentaries Jai Alai Blues and Gure Sorlekuaren Bila. In addition to these, special mention went to the feature-length film Pikadero.  Zorionak to all!

Boise State University extends the deadline to apply for post-graduate scholarships for students from the Basque Country

Boise State University

The deadline has been extended to February 29 (next Monday) to apply for scholarships for Basque students to attend Boise State University (BSU), provided by the Basque Studies Program and the Basque community of Idaho. The scholarships are for a year, where the students can pursue Doctorate studies in the prestigious Engineering and Electronics program of this university.  The scholarship will cover tuition and includes a stipend between $18,000-$25,000 for living expenses.

The aim of the Aberri Eguna festivities at the Denak Bat Basque club in Cañuelas is to gather the dantzaris in the area. This year’s event is celebrating its 10th edition and the organizers want to celebrate it properly: with joy, a lot of music and novelties. There will be dance performances, a concert by Maral and a Giant Paella Show.

The Bristol Basque club is looking for Basque musicians to participate in the Folk Festival in Bath, England

In August the Bath Folk Festival can include the participation of a Basque group, thanks to the Euskal Etxea in Bristol.  The deadline for groups to apply is March 1, so interested music groups should hurry up.  In addition, the club also encourages groups of all types to visit them in hopes of organizing an English mini tour togerher with the London Basque Society.  Following are all the details, as well as photos from the club’s first Mus Tournament.

The Chilean-Bizkaian Mauro Saravia will inaugurate the most complete exhibition of portraits that has been exhibited of ex-combatants of the Eusko Gudarostea, the Basque Army in 1936 on March 2nd at the General Assembly.  Report published by Iban Gorriti in Deia.

Basque-Argentine, Mariana D’orazio will be one of the stars of the new TV program “Question of Origen”

After the success of “All Basque Last Names” ETB has now come up with “Question of Origen,” that will hope to reconstruct the history of people with Basque roots that have never been to the Basque Country.  In this “return trip” they will take the person to the town of his/her ancestors and possibly even to reunite with family.  One of the selected individuals is Mariana D’orazio from Argentina.  Mariana lives in Buenos Aries, and is completing a degree in Social Communication while studying Basque at Euskatzaleak in Buenos Aires.

London discovers txuleta, the Basque steak: this Saturday, pop up dinner Txotx with Chef Adam Rawson

Thanks to Chef Adam Rawson, named the Youth Chef of the Year for 2015, the pub, The Newman Arms, will serve pop up dinners and beverages called Txotx, this Saturday, and on February 27. The menu, according to Adam, will be written in Basque, to surprise diners.  And more surprises; in March Rawson will bring Txuletak, the mythic steak from the well-known restaurant in Tolosa, Casa Julian, to OneSixty.

With the original call being declared void, a new contest to design the Logo for Semana Vasca 2016 in Necochea was launched

After the corresponding evaluations, the committee in charge of the contest decided to declare void the contest and to launch a new one due to lack of response to their first call. The new contest that includes the same characteristics now has a new deadline of March 23 for submissions.

Basques in Ayacucho will present a queen’s candidate and float in the shape of a bota at the National Calf Festival

The candidate to represent the Basque community in Ayacucho in 2016 is Nicole Liuzzi who has dreams of replacing last year’s queen, Clara Islas, also from the Euskal Odola Basque club,  On this 44th edition of the Calf Festival and Day of the Wanderer in Ayacucho, the local Basque club will participate in the parade with a float in the shape of a huge wine zahato or bota, in the year of the centennial of the traditional Las Tres ZZZ bota company.
