Designed for the youngest members of the euskal etxeas, the Union Vasca Basque club in Bahia Blanca organizes an nually a Regional Txikis and Intermediate Gathering. In 2016, the event celebrated its 6th year and was attended by a delegation from the Hiru Erreka Basque Club in Tres Arroyos. During the day, the children played, sang and danced in the company of some of the older dancers from the local Basque club.

Invited by the Asociazione Culturale Euskara (ACE), Basque illustrator, Maite Gurrutxaga, will be in Rome to present her latest work, Habiak, at an event at the Giuffa Book Store next Tuesday. She also let us know that her next digital publication Alderik alde will soon be published in Italian by Libe, with the support of the ACE.

The Berlin Euskal Etxea has worked tirelessly over the last months preparing the “Agirre in Berlin,” conference that will take place at the beginning of June. The program is broad and beginning with the days that Lehendakari Agirre was hiding in Berlin, it will also analyze both the historical and political context that marked the life of so many Basques and Germans. EuskalKultura.com spoke to Ainhoa Añorga and Unai Lauzarika at the Basque club about it.

The Governing Council of the Basque Government gave a green light, at a meeting held last Tuesday, for aid for people who are in situations of extreme need in Basque communities abroad. It will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country in the coming days.

Organized by the local Euskal Txokoa Basque Club in San Martin, the event will take place on June 23 and 25 and will be attended by Hugo Andiazabal, president of FEVA and Sara Pagola, Basque Government delegate in Argentina. The activity will also coincide with the conclusion of the film series that the Basque club organizers during the month and will also include the club’s second anniversary dinner.

Thanks to the Institute of Genealogical Studies in Uruguay, the book An Anonymous Basque on an American Adventure by lawyer, historian and genealogist from Montevideo, Enrique Yarza Rovira will be presented this afternoon. Published by Rumbo, the book features one of the author’s ancestors as its main character, Juan Martin Beracochea and his immigration to Uruguay after the independence.

We are combining two announcements that have little to do with each other. On the one hand, a Basque Restaurant in Bordeaux is looking for a chef with a specialization in Basque cooking. On the other, the Ikerbasque Foundation has opened a call for ten research posts for people who are working outside Euskadi in hopes of attracting them to Basque research institutions.

Dantzari, Gari Otamendi, was recently in Newfoundland, specifically on the islands of Saint Pierre et Miquelon, teaching workshops on Basque dance to Basques in the area. Otamendi, who knows the Diaspora and its passion for dance vary well, says that it is time that the Eighth Province be considered more than just a name: a reality. “I have to say that my relationship with the Basque Diaspora and the perspective that it has given me, has been fundamental in my understanding of the Basque culture today,” he explains.

As soon as the list was created, the youth from the Necochea Basque club let EuskalKultura.com know the names of the five Basque youth chosen to participate in the 2016 Hator Hona Program, who will be in charge of workshops and classes. The program will run July 15-August 7 in Necochea, also site in November of this year’s Semana Nacional Vasca.

To choose what logo to use for its anniversary festivities, the Anaitasuna Basque club in Maipu, in the province of Buenos Aires, asked members to submit their ideas to the club. After the deadline was over, there has been three works selected. Besides this news, the club has also let us know that everyone is ready to the two big events the Club will sponsor this year for the anniversary, on July 10th and October 8th.
