Tomorrow a book about soccer player Julio 'El Vasco' Olarticoechea will be presented in Saladillo

"El Vasco de Saladillo" (The Basque of Saladillo) will be presented by its author, journalist and soccer commentator Agustin Di Benedetto in the main hall in the city of Saladillo, birthplace of renowned soccer player, Julio Jose 'El Vasco' Olarticoechea.  The event will ta attended by Olarticoechea himself, journalist Daniel Arcucci and local authorities.  Published by Dunken, The Basque of Saladillo will be available for purchase soon in larger bookstores in Argentina.

Thirty-one year old, Cirbie Sangroniz, is an Basque-American, and director of the Utah-ko Triskalariak in Salt Lake  A couple of weeks ago, she surprised her girlfriend, Amanda, by dancing an Aurresku to her on stage and then proposing to her.

The Marseille Basque club made its plans and objectives public in a presentation letter

The club was established in December of 2014, and a year later, in December 2015, was recognized by the Basque Government.  They emerged with the support of Gure Irratia, and the Bordeaux Basque club as well as the Zortzi Probintizak Association. The Club made its objectives and plans public today in writing, inviting Basques and others interested in the Basque culture in the Marseille area to get involved.

Following tradition, the Urrundik Association in Parana and the radio program “Presencia Vasca” celebrated their birthdays together.  This year, besides the classic lunch, the Basque club also organized a special activity to celebrate with the children.  Among its coming activities, the club has announced that it will participate in San Fermin at Zazpirak Bat in Rosario and the Dance Evening at the Theater 3rd of February, on September 18.

The continuous reading of classics in Basque, is organized every year by the Bilbo Zaharra Euskaltegi, and this year feature’s The Metamorphosis by Austrian writer Franz Kafka.  The work celebrates one hundred years and was chosen to assert the importance of translation.  As is the custom, nearly 30 Basque clubs will join in the initiative and will read some passages from the book through previously recorded videos.

As a prelude to the race to be held in the waters of the Bay of Txingudi in the month of September, the conference “Mexico-Euskadi Gastronomic Cup” was presented yesterday at the Patxiku Enea restaurant in Lezo, Gipuzkoa.  Mexican Chef, Cesar Sanchez Serna and four of his students from the University of Celaya, in Guanajauato, will be in charge of bringing the flavors of this North American country to Euskadi.  Three Gipuzkoan restaurants and one in Lapurdi will participate in the initiative.

In the fifth edition of the contest the theme and genre are free.  Words can be submitted until July 25, and the awards ceremony will take place in September, at an event organized by the Euskal Etxea.  At dinner celebrated to launch the contest, the dancers from Beti Aurrera performed dances that they performed at “Buenos Aires Celebrates.”

The Basque Government has given the green light for 2016 Basque club grants

Resolution awarding Basque clubs and federations grants in 2015

The Council of the Basque Government gave the green light for the 2016 call for grants for Basque clubs and federations with a total budget of 862,307 Euros, an 80,000 Euro increase from last year. In a few days, the call will appear in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV-EHAA) making the deadline for applications, one month from the day after its publication.

Patxi Perez will travel in a new tour to Argentina to teach dance workshops at Basque clubs

The tour will begin on October 14 in Buenos Aires and will take the Basque dantzari and his musicians to various corners of the country.  Workshops that have been confirmed will take place in Buenos Aires, Corpus Christi and as part of the Semana Vasca in Necochea.  The itinerary is yet to be closed and so Basque clubs who wish to welcome Patxi eta Konpainia should get in touch with them in order to reserve a date.  Details to follow.
