Official events at the Lehendakaritza (Basque President's Government Offices) and the Basque Parliament closed the program of the 7th World Congress of Basque Collectivities Abroad Friday morning. Presentations were made by Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Marian Elorza, Secretary General of Foreign Action; and Lehendakari Urkullu officially closing the gathering.

Celebration of Dantzari Day at the Zazpirak Bat Basque Club in Rosario included a program with various organized proposals including the Tamborrada and the club’s Gaztedi Zutik dancers. Throughout the week, October 7-11, the annual academic program of the Bernardo Atxaga Chair will take place at CUNY, City University of New York. This year, the seminar will focus on the contributions made by Basque culture and literature to peace and reconciliation through new processes, presented by Anabel Martin, Professor at Dartmouth College and expert in Contemporary Spanish Culture.

The Basque club in Bahia Blanca has published the complete Semana Nacional Vasca Argentina 2019 program that will take place November 2-10 with the slogan “120 Years,” as part of the clubs 120th anniversary festivities. Even if the program runs over two weekends, the main activities take place on the second, the days with the largest number of participants attending.

Opening day of the World Congress has arrived. Some 100 delegates and guests, “gaztemundularis,” among others are now in Bilbao to participate in the 7th World Congress of Basque Collectivities Abroad. Beginning at 9am the opening act will begin with Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu welcoming the representatives of the Diaspora and Basque society, as well as other officials attending.
