Just a few hours after Pamplona said good-bye to San Fermin 2015 with the traditional “Pobre de Mi,” and in the Diaspora the echoes of the festival resound and the celebration will continue in many places until next weekend. The distance doesn’t seem to weaken the San Fermin atmosphere and that is why over the last few days, a large number of Basque and Navarran ceters in Argentina have also celebrated with txupinazos, dances and even by drinking wine from a bota.

The cultural group in Bosnia Herzegovina in Boise has recently celebrated its first annual festival. “It was a small festival, but many people attended,” Ramajla Maya Duratovic, a group representative, explained to EuskalKultura.com. There were nearly 1,000 people, including members of the Boise Oinkari Dancers and Patty Miller, director of the Boise Basque Museum. The organizers presented Miller a plaque of recognition, on behalf of the community: “If it weren’t for the support that we received from the Basques, the cultural group Bosnia Herzegovina would not exist in Boise,” Duratovic assured.

Since its opening in 2012, it has only taken a few years for the Donostia restaurant in London to be accepted by the locals and to make it a success. The response has been so good that its owners have decided to expand it, and open another locale just in front. It will be called Lurra and its cuisine will be based on quality products prepared on a grill. They hope to open by summer’s end and are looking for cooks and servers.

Some of the activities took place on July 7 and others on the 9th along with the celebration of Argentina’s Independence Day – others are still to come. On April 18, the Kern County chapter of the California Women for Agriculture hosted their first ever ‘Basque Crawl’−a delectable Basque-American journey through three historical Basque restaurants in Bakersfield: Woolgrower’s, Pyrenees, and Narducci’s. The goal of the association was to raise money to support scholarships to go to two recipients in CSUB’s Agricultural Business Program. “I saw on Facebook how active the local Basque community is, with all those events, and since they’re also involved with agriculture, I thought it could be a great idea to work along with them,” told Nicole Palmer, Vice President of the CWA’s Kern County Chapter, EuskalKultura.com. “Everything went very well, we raised some money and people had a great time,” she added.
