In the middle of the refugee crisis, the European Migration Association will hold its annual meeting in Turin, Italy. The meeting will begin with a conference where members will present their latest studies and research, today and tomorrow. The Basque Government, member of the entity, will be represented by Asier Vallejo, Director for Relations with the Basque Community Abroad.

The Argentinean dantzaris from Parana have barely had a rest this month as ambassadors of Basque dance in this Argentine city since they have been invited to participate in several community festivals. But Urrundik also had its own performances and in 2015, as previous years, it organized its dance show at the Theater of Febrero 3, with the participation of dancers of all ages.

Irisarri, Irizarri, Hirisarri, Yrisarri…There are many variations that have emerged over the centuries, but all come from the same source, the town of Irisarri in Lower Navarre. But this Saturday, anyone with the Irisarri last name is invited to meet at the Yrisarri Palace in Igantzi to enjoy a day dedicated to this last name. The program includes a visit of the palace, a talk on the history of the last name and a meal. Deadline to sign up is September 24th.

The Basque-Argentinean delegation formed of people from the area of Saladillo, province of Buenos Aires, will leave from Argentina on April 26 to tour the most significant places in the Basque Country for two weeks. Besides visiting historic towns and cities, the proposal includes becoming submerged into the Basque culture and enjoying food, festivals, and sports among other experiences. Deadline to make reservations is November 15.

Less than 150 miles south of Vancouver, Canada −where many of the British Columbia Basque Club’s members live−, the Seattle Euskal Etxea is the last club of the US before crossing the north-western border. Seattle Euskal Etxea organized their summer picnic on Saturday, September 12, in Lake Sammamish, WA. “It was a nice lunch for the families and we had good weather,” said Fran Michelena, president, in conversation to EuskalKultura.com.

Last Saturday, September 19th some fifty Gurtubays, including several from Argentina, Venezuela, Chile and England met in Atxondo, Bizkaia, where the last name originated from. It was the first time that members of this large family could meet in person and get to know each other after years of communicating online. As Basque-Argentine German Blas Gurtubay told EuskalKultura.com, they had an unforgettable time.

To support the diffusion of the Balda and Del Rio tournaments that will take place in 2016, the Dr. in History and Xare-player, Pablo Ubierna, just published the book El Xare. La raqueta argentina. Una historia de la Pelota Vasca en Rio de la Plata (Xare, the Argentinean Racquet, the history of Basque pilota in the Rio de la Plata). The digital version is now available online and can be downloaded free of charge while the paper version will become available by year’s end.

Two hundred children representing Basque clubs in the Buenos Aires surrounding area in Argentina gathered on Saturday at the Llavallol Colegio Euskal Echea to participate in FEVA’s 2015 Txiki Get-Together. Following the program proposed by FEVA, the children enjoy an entire day of games and activities with Basque colors and rhythms.

The Corpus Christi Basque club in the Argntinean province of Misiones, celebrated its 10th anniversary with an intense program of activities that included a race, music performances, and theater as well as a birthday dinner among other offerings. Without a doubt, the most significant moment for the local Basque community was the enthronement ceremony of the relic of St. Ignatius of Loyola, brought from Rome.
