The wonderful atmosphere experienced over the entire week in Macachin was also predominate during Sunday’s activities.  That is why it was difficult for organizers or guest alike, when it was time to say goodbye.  But as a consolation, Semana Vasca 2016 has a date and place and while we wait for November to come around again, we will see each other again in Necochea, and we leave you with the final images from Macachin.

Mendata turned into a town from the Far West to pay tribute to sheepherders who immigrated to America

Cowboy hats, plaid shirts, sheepwagons, horses…The Bizkaian town of Mendata looked like a scene from the American West for a day as a very special tribute to Basque sheepherders who immigrated to the US.  The people of Mendata dedicated themselves to the festival’s organization and were also active participants in it, dressing up and enjoying a taste of the Far West. The event was a huge success and plans are already in place for it to travel throughout Urdaibai next time.

Dave Bieter, the Basque-American mayor from Boise, Idaho makes history by winning his fourth four-year term

Boise, Idaho mayor, Dave Bieter, won the elections and will be in office for another four years. He got 68.8% of the votes, almost three times more than his political opponent Judy Peavey-Derreta who got 26.4%. With these four consecutive victories, Dave H. Bieter made history, since it’s the first time in almost 125 years that a Boise mayor has been elected four times in a row. The last politician achieving that in the capital city of Idaho was James A. Pinney, in 1891.

EuskalKultura.com will raffle a projector, a great tool for Basque clubs that wish to project film, do audiovisual presentations, or use it during Basque class or other workshops and activities.  The goal is to provide a basic resource to Basque clubs that need it. Next Sunday is the deadline for those Basque clubs interested in taking part in the raffle.

The dance gala at the Semana Nacional Vasca is one of the main activities within an intense program during the festival and this year it again was of great quality.  Nevertheless, it wasn’t the only moment where the dantzaris could be seen – and companions – in their moment when the musicians and dancers would take advantage of any opportunity to do “one more Fandango.”  Here, EuskalKultura.com presents the second article from the Gala.

Nine films return to Iparralde where they were made as part of the series “Chez les Basques”

Some of the films that are part of the “Chez les Basques” series

The film series, “Chez les Basques,” programmed during the 9th edition of the Point of View Festival, will be shown in various theaters in Iparralde from November 7-15.  These films return to the place they were made, thanks to the collaboration of Point of View and Euskal Kultur Erakundea.  The films can be seen in Iruña-Pamplona, Donibane Lohizune, Ortzaize, Maule, Donapaleu, Donibane Garazi, and Biarritz, among other locations.

Job offer: The Barcelona Basque club is looking for a new coordinator to begin as soon as possible

The Euskal Etxea in Barcelona has published a job offer, in hopes of finding a person who will take charge of coordinating the club.  This person would coordinate the various areas of the club (Euskera, culture, and the txoko).  He/she would also be in charge of budget, external relations, communication and coordinating the board.  Deadline to apply is November 13.
