The novel Kristalezko begi bat by Basque writer Miren Agur Meabe will be published in the US this summer, translated into English A Glass Eye, by Parthian Books. Currently, Meabe and translator, Amaia Gabantxo, are touring the United States to present the work. Until November 21, they will be at a translation lab in New York and then will jump to the West Coast with presentations in California, Nevada and Idaho.

The invitation comes from HABE, FEVA and the Delegation of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur and the Basque clubs and will provide a range of academic and recreational activities that will run from November 16th through December 3rd. The event will be attended by Kinku Zinkunegi, HABE technician and director of the Euskara Munduan Program; Patxi Baztarrika, vice-counsel of Linguistic Policy in the Basque Government; and Jose Lozan Santos, director of Linguistic Normalization in Public Administration. All activities are open to the public.

More than 100 texts participated in the literary contest “Basque Women” organized by the sub commission of culture at the Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea in Buenos Aires. Given the quality of the entries, besides the winners and the special mentions, organizers also decided to present fourteen diplomas to other distinguished works. The awards ceremony will take place on November 21 at the clubhouse.

The invitation is open to all children’s centers in the area and provides an opportunity for children to come together and play as well as to share and get to know the Basque culture. Besides letting us know about this activity, the club also let us know that a house constructed by the Basque and the city has now been turned over to its new owners.

Manuel Bustingorry’s ancestors came to Argentina via Uruguay at the end of the 19th century. And people keep calling him “Vasco” (Basque) for the sonority of his last name. He is one of the founders of the new Euskal Etxea in San Martin de los Andes, in the Argentinean province of Neuquen.

With the joint participation of children’s choirs, orchestras and Basque instruments, musicians Noé Fernandez, Gaspar Jaurena, Alex Garate and Agustin Alonso presented “Magnificat” in Mendoza, Tucuman and Cordoba. It will be the third time in a row that the Guillermo Larregui Basque club travels to the Basque Country to visit the most significant tourist destinations on both sides of the Pyrenees. The group will leave from Buenos Aires in September 2016 and will stay for two weeks in the old country. Even if organizational meetings won’t begin until January, the list of interested travelers has already reach 15.

The Gazteria Basque dance group in Paris is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and between all of the celebrations, its group has marked December 19 and 20 in red on their calendars. This is when Gazteria will perform its Basque show, “Makila” created and produced in Paris, in the Basque Country. A group of 50 dantzaris, singers and musicians will take the show to the stages in Luhuso, Lapurdi.

The race for the Oscars is providing good news for Basque film that is being felt in the US. On the one hand, the film Loreak is being shown in US theaters (this week in Washington) and is receiving very good reviews. On the other, the short documentary Minerita is on the shortlist of final candidates.

The club is rushes to renovate the facade of its upper floors, giving them a form of a Basqie traditional farmhouse. The goal is to have a “txoko” or bar and so enormous energy and resources are being invested. With this goal in mind, they have begun work and so the clubhouse will not be available during the month of November. In December, it will return to normal in order to celebrate the International Day of Euskera and the New Year celebration.
