The Mendiburu Magic Foundation, a support group for those affected by cancer and other diseases will hold its 15th annual “Mendiburu Compassion Awards,” on December 9 at the Wool Growers Basque Restaurant in Bakersfield, California. The foundation was created in 2000 by John and Brian Mendiburu in memory of their mother, Nancy, who passed away after a long battle against cancer.

Euskera and Guaraní, two minority languages that both coexist with a hegemonic language, Spanish, joined hands in Asuncion on Tuesday, where the Government of Paraguay intends to apply the process of normalization to Basque for the benefit of the Guaraní. To this end, a delegation from the Basque Government led by the vice-minister of Linguistic Policy, Patxi Baztarrika, who will also participate in the International Day of Euskera festivities in La Plata and Buenos Aires in a couple of days.

Members of the Union Vasca Basque club, but also from the community in general, accompanied the dantzaris from Beti Aurrera in their presentation of the show at the Municipal Theater. “Gu, Nosotros,” (Gu, Us) tells the story of Josune and her two countries, her native Basque Country and Argentina her new home, through dance and music.

The race that connects Bilbao to Bordeaux, will once again take place after the success of its first edition in 2014. The race is organized by the Bordeaux Basque club, the Society of Cyclists in Bilbao, the state Bordelais – ASPTT (Bordeaux) and Urgozo Iturriko Txirrindulari Elkartea (Amorebieta). The new edition will take place on May 5 in Bilbao to arrive in Bordeaux on May 7.

The project on the ship San Juan has come to the Philippines thanks to the Albaola Foundation, based in Pasaia, Gipuzkoa. Its president, Xabier Agote, presented the project on the Basque whalers of Newfoundland in Manila where “The Global Impact of the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade: an International Conference Celebrating 450 Years of Urdaneta´s Voyage” took place on November 14 and 15, in memory of the landmark navigation starring a Basque, Andres de Urdaneta.

The work, comprised of fifteen segments, is already is already a part of the main hall at the Basque club where it will be a reminder of the bombing suffered by the Bizkaian village. At an inaugural event for the mural, poems were read and that club dancers also performed.

The Askatasunaren Bidea Association in San Miguel in Greather Buenos Aires, will close its 2015 Basque film series showing In 80 Days. The event will be held tomorrow at 19:00 at the Sarmiento Library. Looking towards the end of the year, activities will continue until December 5th with a talk and dance show at the Book Night as well as the celebration of the International Day of Euskera.

The Euzko Etxea Basque club in Santiago will begin Semana Vasca 2015 today with an official reception at the clubhouse. Along with numerous Basque-Chileans, the Deputy General of Bizkaia, Unai Rementeria will also be in attendance as he is on a commercial mission in Chile with Basque entrepreneurs. Semana Vasca will run through Sunday with a wide range of original activities including concerts, Olympics, a Korrika Txiki and much more.

They come from Wyoming. David plays the Basque diatonic accordion, and Caitlin the violin. Today they will be performing Basque, Catalan, Spanish, French and Portuguese music at the BSU International Week. And they will also play tonight at the Basque Block and tomorrow at the Boiseko Ikastola.
