Singer Benito Lertxundi will perform today at the Trianon in Paris

The Paris Basque club celebrates in 2016 60 years and has prepared several activities to mark this anniversary.  The festivities began last Saturday with a party and will continue today with a concert by special guest, the well-known Basque singer Benito Lertxundi.  Tomorrow there will be a Sagardotegi night at the club, and on Sunday the club membership will take to the streets to celebrate carnival.

It's an annual Basque American gastronomical gathering. Yuba City, California's annual Txorizo Contest will celebrate forty years next weekend. From a family style get-together to an event that gathers over 250 people, this culinary festival has gone through all kinds of phases and “it's still growing,” as John Belza, person in charge of the competition, told EuskalKultura.com.

The New York Txikito Basque restaurant brings to the Big Apple the San Blas traditions in Bilbao

Eder Montero, chef from Bilbao is making his mark in New York.  He has just opened his fourth restaurant, along with his wife and associate, Alex Raij, and in the spring they will publish a book on Basque cooking.  In addition, he is now also teaching New Yorkers the traditional customs of Bilbao, like the tradition of necklaces for San Blas.  Brought from Bilbao, the Txikito Restaurant passed the necklaces out to its clients yesterday, according to the tradition to protect them from the flu and colds.

Thanks to the successful organization of the local Basques, the project to recuperate the Harriague Bodega in Salto has begun (II)

The proposal presented by the Saltoko Euskaldunen Taldea is called U-riharri (Uruguay-Ribes-Harriague), thanks to the architect Ander De la Fuente Arana. The project was very well-received by the local government, that has already outlined what the next steps will be.  In regards to the recovery itself, the project includes local production of Txakoli and will include cultural activities like exhibitions of rowers in the waters of the Uruguay River. “We want to not only recover the heritage of the monument, but also its spirit,” the Basque architect explained.

The 11th edition of Zinemaldia Cat will begin this Friday. Zinemaldia Cat is the Basque film festival organized in the Barcelona by the Catalonian capital city's Basque club.  This year the festival will present a selection of Basque films that demonstrate that Basque cinemas has crossed borders: it tells not only local stories, but also stories from elsewhere, that are then shown at festivals around the world.  An example of this is the documentary Jai Alai Blues that focusses on the world of pelota in Florida.

This coming Sunday, February 7, the biggest sporting event in the US will be celebrated in Santa Clara, California. The 50th Superbowl is expected to be a record breaking TV phenomenon. However, the Euskaldunak from Miami, Florida are more focused on the finishing touches of their first 'Kirol Jaialdia,' a Basque rural sport picnic aiming at raising awareness of the importance of Basque sports in this state, in addition to spending a great day together.

Saltoko Euskaldunen Taldea (Uruguay) presented a project to its city to recuperate the old Harriague Bodega

The project will count on three fundamental guarantees, from the University of the Basque Country through its Research Group in Constructed Heritage; from the city of Salto; and as main administrator, the local Basque Club, Saltoko Euskadunen Taldea.  The presentation was made by Basque architect Ander De la Fuente Arana and another Uruguayan architect, representative of the Commission for Cultural Heritage of the Nation, Magela Terzano.  Special guest of the club, EuskalKultura.com, covered what took place at the presentation.

Recently elected Basque club president in Mexico City, Lorea Palacios Urquiola spoke to EuskalKUltura.com about her projects and the future of the Basque club in Mexico City as well as about the challenges it faces.  “We should invest in our youth that we have lost and who are so hard to attract when you are in the middle of a city full of cultural offerings, as well as competitive cuisine.  It is also important to recuperate members who have quit coming,” she says.
