The Eusko Etxea was presented this year at the National Sun Festival with an unusual proposal: its participation in the Sun Carrousel was a float with a 3D reproduction of Picasso’s Guernica that was added to the long line of floats that participate in the parade. “We were very well-received, the audience applauded for our float enthusiastically.” Look at the photos.

The Gure Txoko Basque club in Valladolid, Spain is getting ready for spring, after a very active, busy winter. The club has carried out various activities over the past few months, from traditional celebrations like Santo Tomas, or the Tamborrada, to excursions, meals and more. They have elected a new board. Musician Mertxe Mendive and 'pilotari' Fernando Lejardi left Miami, Florida recently, after the latter retired from professional Jai Alai, to move to Mendive's hometown, Elko, Nevada. The accordionist, “an indefatigable worker,” as some of her friends put it, couldn't wait to start collaborating with the Euskal Etxea and is already playing at the Club's dance practices, on Sundays. After the summer, she will be teaching fellow members how to play this traditional Basque instrument.

The New York Times has dedicated a new article to “New Nouvelle Cuisine” at the most fashionable restaurants in Paris, including Iñaki Azpitarte’s Chateaubriand. The restaurant that offers a unique menu of 65 Euros, mixes French cooking with Asian touches including some from Latin America.

Those in Quebec, Canada interested in learning Basque songs, dances, and some Euskara, in a relaxing way, will have the opportunity to join a course organized by the Euskal Etxea, to be celebrated, tentatively, in May and June. Musician Maider Martineau a native from Urruña (Lapurdi), will be the teacher and, as she told EuskalKultura.com, “the intention is for participants to get basic skills in a relaxed and pedagogic atmosphere.”

The festival has selected four films that were produced and directed by Basques that will be shown tomorrow March 1, and Wednesday march 3 in 24 Mexican cities, The Mexican audience won’t only have the opportunity to see these four films, but will also be able to meet firsthand the wide-range of activities that the Mendi Film Festival of Bilbao encompasses.

EuskalKultura.com’s February raffle already has winners: this time four of them. The book will stay in Euskal Herria and the CDs will travel to Argentina. In hopes of supporting professional relationships between the Basque Country and America, the Cenarrusa Foundation in Boise, Idaho and Bizkaia:talent have created a leadership program that will allow highly-qualified professionals on both sides of the ocean to experience stays in Euskadi and the USA or Canada in 2016. The stays will be between 10 and 21 days. Deadline to apply is April 30.

The quarry is important and after cultivating it at home and at your local Basque club, for children from the ages of 10-15 in the US, it’s time for Udaleku (summer camp) organized by NABO, the North American Basque Organizations. The demand is always much larger than spots available. This year the camp will be held in Salt Lake City, organized by the Utah Basque Club. It’s not easy to get in. Registration will take place on Tuesday, March 1 at 6pm (PST). It will fill in just a few minutes.
