With its traditional Basque repertoire, the Otxote choir created at the heart of the Argentine Bahia Blanca Basque club has two clear goals: to accompany club activities, and above all enjoy singing traditional songs from the Euskaldun songbook. Of course the group won’t miss the opportunity during the Aberri Eguna lunch at the Union Vasca that will take place on April 3.

The scholarship program, Global Training 2016, provides Basque Country youth another opportunity to carry out projects in companies abroad. Currently, Garapen and Sustapena in Donostia are gathering projects from companies from around the world interesting in some of these workers. The deadline to submit projects is at the beginning of April. The program will take care of the salary of the students chosen as well as their stays. The success of the program is notable and “the rate of students who end up staying at the company is very high, nearly 80%,” Izaskun Kortazar from Garapen told EuskalKultura.com.

The Anaitasuna Basque club in Maipu, in the Argentine Province of Buenos Aires, has turned 40 and to celebrate, has organized activities that will take place from May to December. Among the proposals to be carried out, members, friends, dantzaris and anyone else interested --may be you-- are invited to create a logo to represent the special anniversary. That can be your contribution, why not, we are the Basque diaspora. The deadline to submit artwork is March 30.

Today the “New Basque Filmmakers” series begins in Madrid, organized by the SGAE Foundation. The series will present: Ander (2009), by Roberto Castón; Izarren argia (2010), by Mikel Rueda; Loreak (2013), by José Mª. Goenaga and Jon Garaño; La casa Emak Bakia (2013), by Óskar Alegría; and Amama (2015), by Asier Altuna.

In the north of Argentine Patagonia, the county of Viedma and Carmen de Patagones celebrate the Festival of Patagonian Sovereignty annually with a week full of activities. The Euskal Etxea joins the Basque community in both cities with its participation in the civil/military parade and Creole, to begin their annual activities.

The Basque Museum and Cultural Center of Boise, Idaho will hold, this evening, a very special cooking class, based on Basque inspired spices. Marla Gungen, owner of Buttonhollow Spice Traders, will demonstrate “how to season, without killing the original flavor,” as she said in conversation with EuskalKultura.com. Attendants will be able to sample the dishes with a glass of wine and to purchase them, along with the recipes.

The Bordeaux Basque club has published an invitation to join the group of people that gathers every Wednesday to speak Euskera and to have a good time among friends. Anyone wishing to join them at the bar “Chez Fred,” near the clubhouse, is welcome. If you are interested you can begin next Wednesday starting at 9:00pm. The Euskal Etxea has also recently held elections for its board, with David Mugica being reelected as president.

The Argentinean Euskaltegi has published its Basque class Schedule for 2016. The course will begin on Monday, April 4 along, in four sites simultaneously. Several of their other offerings also begin in the coming days including their Basque Film Series that will begin on March 18 with Amama. After the film, those present will have the chance to talk to actress Iraia Elias, at the club’s first get-together of the year.

Even if the city’s anniversary date is May 1, the celebrations take place throughout the entire month in this Argentine town in the province of Santa Fe. As part of its organization, the local Basque club is putting together an entire exhibition about the Basques that will include photos, videos, displays, anecdotes and dancing. Along with this news, Euskel Biotza also let us know that their legal proceedings will be over soon.
