The Euskal Etxea in Cuba celebrated a huge Aberri Eguna celebration on March 27 that gathered some 330 people including members, friends and visitors from the Basque Country. In addition, the Basque club also organized a Basque Week, with conferences and cultural activities that featured the importance of Euskera, “the identity of our country,” in the words of club president, Renato Garcia Egusquiza.

The Basque Government has opened the application process for four scholarships in specialization in the area of Basque club and Basque communities abroad. The duration of the scholarship will be for 12 months. Persons selected will carry out activity in the following units under the Administration of the Autonomous Community of Euskadi: the Secretary General of Foreign Action, in Vitoria-Gasteiz (2) the Delegation of Euskadi in Argentina-Mercosur (1) and the United States (1)

Under the direction of Lelio Sanchez, captain of the club’s Soccer for the Blind team and student of social communication at UNLP, “Basque Roots” will be aired every Monday from 6-7pm, on Radio Alta Voz that can also be accessed online. Guests of the first program include: Jorge Batiz and Maria Fernanda Astigarraga, two important Basque club referents in the area.

The Basque community in Cañuelas held a very special program, this weekend, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the local Denak Bat Basque club’s main event. The Dantzari Get-Together for Aberri Eguna this year included dancing, a Tamborrada, but also live Basque-Argentine music with Maral, and a gigantic Paella, a tribute to former soldiers and fallen in the Falklands (see photo gallery)

The Paris Basque club will have a very animated weekend, with a Basque Festival that they celebrate annually with the associations that make up the entity. There will be workshops for children, carnival parade, txaranga and popular food. In addition, on March 22, the Basque club experienced a very exciting night with the Rubgy tournament match of Six Nations between France and England that filled the clubhouse.

Veronica Zulaica is a lawyer in the province of Buenos Aires, granddaughter of Basques, Basque by blood, feeling and conviction. In her Basque club, Denak Bat in Cañuelas, the 10th anniversary of the Aberri Eguna Dantzari Get-Together will take place next Sunday: It's an important date annually on the calendar of many youth in the general Basque-Argentine community.

The new board of directors of the Beti Aurrera Basque club in Chivilcoy, Argentina has gathered every Monday since January planning activities that strengthen “the Basque life of the Euskal Etxea and allows it to explore the culture of Euskal Herria in its different expressions.” The 2016 program includes several proposals for all tastes that also cultivates stronger relations between the Basque club and the entire community of Chivilcoy.

Literaldia is the festival of Basque literature organized annually in Barcelona by the local Basque club and its 2016 edition will begin tomorrow, During the entire month of April Basque writers, poets, and storytellers will be passing through the city. But in addition to the festival they will continue opening new roads, and invited urban poets and improvisers like bertsolaris and hip hop singers. See the complete program.

Fernando Lejardi has been playing at the highest level of Jai Alai in Florida for almost two decades. He just received three Jai Alai baskets made of plastic, straight from Markina, in the Basque Country. “This kind of baskets are for starters, they're impossible to break,” he told EuskalKultura.com. He already had another one at home and, plus the professional ones he has, he could be instructing a group of around five people. “The idea is just to have some fun, and we'll go from there.”
