Last Wednesday, the book Aita deitzen zen gizona (A Man Called Aita) that gathers the memories of Joan Errea, a descendant of Basque immigrants who settled in Nevada, was presented in Baigorri, Lowe Navarre  The book has b een published by Pamiela, with the support of Eusko Ikaskuntza and the Larraldea Cultural Center. In the book, edited by Pello Salaburu, Following are images from the presentation.

The Euskal Etxea in Comahue will be formally presented this Saturday at a big outdoor festival in the middle of Neuquen

The festival will take place tomorrow on the “Paseo de los Artesanos,” and will be attended by Basque club representatives from Bariloche, Córdoba, Pergamino, Viedma and San Martín de los Andes.  “There will be Basque and Argentine dancing, videos, information about the Basques and the Basque Country and of course, various pintxos for the guests."  "It will be a complete success,” Rafa Molina, main organizer of the event told EuskalKultura.com.

Iñigo Ruiz de Gordejuela, from Gazteiz, is studying music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he has created, along with other students, a group with a Basque name and inspiration: Amalur.  The group has published a video online of its version of the popular Basque classic “Aldapeko Sagarraren,” transformed in a clear jazz version.  Do you want to hear it?

Xabier Gil Hernandez is from Pamplona and has lived in Peru for six years.  He has a degree in agriculture and environment and has toured the country and knows close up the rural work and that of indigenous communities.  He is also a member of the Euskal Etxea in Lima where he has taught Basque since last year.

The Uruguayan architect of Basque descent and survivor of the tragedy of the Andes, visited Euskadi as a guest of “Origen,” the new EiTB program.  Every episode will tell the story of someone from the Diaspora coming to Euskadi, in many instances for the first time.  Along with Strauch, other guests of the show will be Juan Martin Guevara, Che Guevara’s little brother; Pilar Garcia Gurtuby, descendant of Simon Gurtubay, who imported cod from Norway; Fernando Solabarrieta, popular presenter and journalist from Chile or the Argentinean cook, Fernando Martitegui.  Article published on EiTB.com.

Boise's Basque Museum to celebrate Basque communities worldwide at its annual benefit dinner next Saturday

After last year's 30th anniversary celebrations, the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise, Idaho will make the Basque communities around the world the main theme of its annual benefit dinner, organized for April 9. The Basque Center won't be the only thing decorated with international motifs, but each dinner table will have some information about the different diasporas. “It will be something small, like educational pieces. I don't expect people to learn a lot, just to spark some interest,” explained organizer Annie Gavica, in a conversation with EuskalKultura.com.

Artists are sought to participate in an arts and culture festival in London June 2-5: BaskFest 2016

Basque art will take Dalston, one of the neighborhoods of London this June, with the BaskFest 2016 Festival.  It is a celebration of Basque culture across disciplines like film, music, visual arts, dance, performance, photography, and gastronomy.  The organizers, the London Basque Diaspora, are seeking Basque artists and creators in London who would like to contribute their work.  The deadline to apply is April 15.

Finishing up the second edition of Basques in the US, author Koldo San Sebastián and CBS publications coordinator Daniel Montero talked to EuskalKultura.com about the use of the Internet to attract new readers to history texts and books. “The Internet is a very powerful tool for divulgation. And it works in both directions, we put information out there but we also receive new data and corrections from the readers,” said San Sebastián. To what Montero added: “We want to encourage people to take part [in this project], and they're doing it little by little. I am a bit surprised by the impact of our first post, but that's a good sign.”

Following tradition, the Basque club in Bariloche celebrated Aberi Eguna at the Paseo de las Colectvidades
