In Paris, you can buy Txuletas 24 hours a day, thanks to an initiative by Michel and Florence Pouzol, the owners of the L’ami Txulette butcher shop. These entrepreneurs have installed the first meat vending machine in Paris that is experiencing tremendous success. Michel has worked for several years in the Basque Country and his butcher shop there sells not only said Txuletas but also other products such as ham from Baiona, Basque dried sausage, etc. On egin!

The Ibai Ondoko Etxea Basque club in Carmelo, in the department of Colonia, will celebrate its 21st anniversary and will join in the various events planned to celebrate with the town’s bicentennial. Among the Basque proposals there will be a exhibit of traditional clothing, “Gure Arropa,” that will be inaugurated on Saturday with Magdalena Mignaburu, and a talk “Basque Pelota,” on Sunday by Enrique Poittevin, president of FIVU, the Federation of Basque Institutions in Uruguay.

The Euskal Argentina association will hold its annual general assembly this Saturday at the town hall in Donibane Garazi-St Jean de Pied de Port. The entity, presided for years by Pierra Lako, and whose current president is Monika Legarto, will go over its budget and activities that took place in 2015. They will also present and talk about its current activity and will report, among other things, on the trip to Argentina that is planned for this November.

The “Dairyman Race,” is a classic car race. As its names implies, racers need to use the roads that Basque dairy farmers in the area used to use at the beginning of the last century, throught cities like Cañuelas, Lobos and General Las Heras. After the race, the Zazpirak Bat will provide lunch at its Basque Taberna.

If Aberri Eguna is a celebration especially felt in the Diaspora, for the Basque communities in Venezuela it is with no doubt the most important day of the year. This year, the event gathered many members and friends to enjoy a leisurely day at the Eusko Etxea in Caracas; much like they did at the Euskal Etxea in Valencia. For another year, the Day of the Basque Homeland, Aberri Eguna reached Basque clubs all over the world. There were notable activities, as well as more familiar ones, and many clubs remembers the Basque Country, the land of their origin and ancestors. The Basque Gastronomic Week will be held May 9-15 in Buenos Aires and will include the participation of renowned restaurants and chefs from all over the country. They will provide menus at fixed promotional prices, and conferences on Basque cooking as well as masters classes will fe offered, among other activities. As part of this event the Basque-Argentine Chamber of Commerce (CEVA) invites Basque clubs to join in with their pintxos and/or typical dishes for an evening that will be open to the public.

EuskalKultura.com’s April raffle already has winners: this time four of them. The book will go to Argentina and the CDs will travel, the first one to Argentina, the second to Uruguay and the third will remain in Navarre. We found out about this a few days ago, thanks to our colleagues at NABO's Astero weekly, who we are borrowing this article from: Daniel Uranga, son of Jennifer and Tony Uranga of Homedale, Idaho took away two trophies last Sunday from the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship held at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The event, established in 2013, aims at growing the sport by focusing on fundamental skills. Zorionak to Daniel, his parents, sister Tea and friends and the Homedale Txoko Ona Basque Club!

The 9th edition of the “MercoMus” Mus Tournament will begin on Wednesday and will run through April 16 in Santiago, Chile. The tournament will gather players form Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela and Chile. Its counterpart, the Argentina Mus Tournament will be played August 13-15 in Laprida, hosted by the Lagunen Etxea Basque club. The winning team will represent Argentina at the World Tournament in Donostia in October.
