Real Sociedad will tour the US in May, just after league (La Liga) competition concludes. The txuriurdin tour will leave for the US on May 16th and on May 18th they will be in California to play against the San Jose Earthquakes. Afterwards, on May 24th they will play in the Charities Cup in Texas, against the Houston Dynamo. Team sources told EuskalKultura.com that the team is more than ready to meet their fans and with Basques in the area during their stay in the US.

Aberri Eguna was celebrated throughout the entire month of April in Argentina; the calendar of events that began on April 3 and 4 with the Dantzari Get-Together in Cañuelas was complemented by activities in other cities, organized by local Basque clubs. Following is a summary and photos of the final events carried out in honor of Day of the Basque Homeland.

One of the most anticipated events for the Basque community in New York, Txikifest, is right around the corner. This Txakoli (Basque white sparkling wine) festival is organized every year by the Txikito Restaurant managed by Eder Montero. The festival will take place on May 15, outside in the street behind the restaurant, complete with good txakoli, pintxos and other dishes. In other news, Txikito and other restaurants in this group, have published several job ads; more information to follow.

Only one ballot was presented at the Laurak Bat Basque club for the upcoming FEVA elections. The list is led by the current president, Hugo Andiazabal, elected for the first time in 2014, along with Javier Ederra, who will accompany him as secretary. The treasurer will now be Cristina Arregui. After voting there will be a general meeting of Basque clubs.

The presentation of the new Basque club took place on April 9 at the Paseo de los Artesanos in Neuquen. The support enjoyed by the new club was notable and not only at the local level, with the participation of several municipal authorities, but also from neighboring Basque communities representated. Representatives from several Basque clubs traveled hundreds of kilometers to accompany the Euskal Etxea in Comahue at its first big event (see photo gallery).

The Ysursas, a well known American family whose reference city is the US is Boise, Idaho will celebrate this weekend the Centennial of their arrival to America. It was in November 1915 when Benito Ysursa Urrutia left his home town in Iurreta, Bizkaia to establish in Boise, where he was able to raise a Basque American family, with progeny distributed today throught several states. One hundred years later, the Ysursas keep paying a contribution and adding from their Basque rooths to their daily American reality.

The Plenary Session of the Government of the Bizkaian town of Iurreta, in the Basque Country, decided last September to express institutional public recognition and pay public tribute to Benito Ysursa, born in Iurreta in 1895 and founder of a family saga in the US, They also extend the recognition "to the people from Iurreta who emigrated and upheld our culture and language as part bof their new life". Iñaki Totorikaguena, Mayor of Iurreta will take part this weekend in Boise in a program to pay tribute to Benito Ysursa.

Today the institutional trip of a Delegation from the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa that has been on for a week, will come to a close. The aim of the trip is to strengthen ties between both territories and to promote an agreement of collaboration in various fields, as well as business opportunities. The Gipuzkoan delegation was led by Iker Goiria, director of External Relations at the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa, and Daniel Arbulu, technician in Foreign Relations.

Even though a few details still need to be set, the Laurak Bat Basque club, main organizer of “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque country” has let EuskalKultura.com know the list of participants, visitors and stands that will participate in this year’s event. The date is set for May 8 beginning at noon on the Avenida de Mayo and Bolivar, this year, the Basque Government’s Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Asier Vallejo will also be in attendance.

Juan Manuel “Juantxi” Yacomini is a young man from Necochea who studies computation engineering at the National University of La Plata (UNLP). He also studies and teaches Basque at La Plata Basque Club and coordinates the “Hator Hona” program in Necochea.
