More than ten thousand kilometers from the Pyrenees and the Basque community in Argentina did great work when creating Basque atmosphere in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires. With the participation of Basque clubs from all over the country, there was no shortage of means to achieve this. During the entire day, the Avenida de Mayo was full of dancing, music, Euskera, food, sports, literature and traditional dress, among other Basque Country cultural and symbolic elements.

Sponsored by the Federation of Basque Institutions in Uruguay (FIVU) and organized by the Haize Hegoa Basque club and the Euskaro Center, the exhibit “Gure Arropa-Our Clothes” visited the Uruguayan capital for the first time in April. Afterwards, both Basque clubs commemorated the 79th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika in the Plaza of the same name in Montevideo.

GipuzkoAround is a project that hopes to unite, for the first time, the 89 towns in Gipuzkoa. Its supporters, the team that created “Dancing in the Basque Country,” have asked for help on social media to choose what places should be included. They are also asking the Basques in the Diaspora. Let them know your favorite place, and it might be included.

The fifth edition of the festival “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” took place yesterday on the Avenida de Mayo, and according to information gathered by organizers, the number of attendees reached nearly 20 thousand at peak hours. From noon until 6pm, Buenos Aires enjoyed a huge exhibition of the Basque culture with exhibition of dance, music, food, sports, Euskera, typical dress, as well as the work of many Basque clubs and institutions that participated in the mega-festival.

This Friday and Saturday, the Gure Mendietakoak Basque club in Caldas (Antioquia) and CEVA (Center of Basque Studies of Antioquia), will be present at the literary festival Medellin Book Fair, where they will have their own stand. The Basque club will show the public books and publications about Basque culture, Basque literature, history, and as well as works by the Basque Diaspora. The stand will be manned by John Alejandro Ricaurte, historian and researcher and founding member of Gure Mendietakoak.

On May 1, people from Baztan in Mexico City and the surrounding area, gathered again at the Basque club to celebrate Baztango Eguna. There is something about this event that gathers bigger crowds every year who are ready to have a good time with their friends. Organized by Laurak Bat, the festival will take place this Sunday, in the heart of the Buenos Aires on Avenida de Mayo in front of the Cabildo. Events will begin at noon. Several Northern Nevada entities have published Elkokoak, the Basques of Elko," an online exhibit that shows the reality of the Elko Basque community. This initiative is contributing its grain of sand to the 2016 Smithsonian Folklife Festival’s “Innovation by Culture” that is dedicated to the Basques and will take place this June and July in Washington.

To promote the Basque club’s activities, the Concordia Basque Community will have monthly outings on the Plaza 25 de Mayo in the city where their cultural stand will introduce the club’s proposals, and various aspects of the history and the actuality of Euskal Herria. Along with this news, the Euskal Etxea also invites everyone to its first monthly dinner that will take place this Saturday, May 7.
