Yesterday the largest Basque tourist showcase opened in Donostia “Meet the Basque Country 2016”

Tourist operators in 21 countries are currently participating in “Meet the Basque Country,” the largest Basque commercial tourism gathering in Euskadi, according to the Basquetour, tour agency, organizer of the event.  The gathering began yesterday in Donostia and will run through Friday, with conferences in Gasteiz and Bilbao.

Historian, Argitxu Camus, will talk about Basque emigration in Pamplona as part of the expo “Artists’ Glimpses of the Basque Diaspora”

The Palacio Condestable in Pamplona hosts the exhibit “Artists’ Glimpses of the Basque Diaspora,” a selection of 21 works in various disciplines with the emigration phenomenon as its theme.  As part of the exhibit, historian, Argitxu Camus, will give a talk tomorrow on the history of the Basque Diaspora.  The exhibit will be in Iruña until June 8.

‘DonOstia’ Restó, flavors of the sea at the foot of the mountains

The ‘DonOstia’ Café-Restó-Bar is located in Godoy Cruz, minutes away from the capital of the province of Mendoza.  It is run by Mikel Tena Goicoechea from Zarautz, and provides a varied menu whose star dish, without a doubt, is seafood.  “Our specialty is squid…they say that they are the best in Mendoza,” Goicoechea jokes.

The Euskaltzaleok Basque club in Valencia announces its third Pintxo Contest this Friday

This is a very successful initiative that members of the Euskaltzaleok Basque club in Quart de Poblet (Valencia) take very seriously because when it comes to good food, they don’t play.  This Friday, the Euskaltzale association will hold its third annual Pintxo Contest at Racó de la Corbella.  Pintxos will be presented between 20:00-21:00.

Basque-American, and member of the Basque Club of Utah, Bryan Osoro climbs Everest

We heard the proud news from the Utah Basque Club: “Our member and friend, Bryan Osoro, climbed Everest.”  It happened last Sunday, local time.  Bryan Osoro, mountaineer and a huge alpinist climbed Everest accompanied by an Ikurriña with a Lauburu and the profile of the state of Utah in his hands, as seen in the photo.  Bryan Osoro is the son of Larry Osoro, veteran member of the Utah Euskal Etxea.  Zorionak to Bryan, Larry and his entire Basque club family!

A group of students from Vitoria-Gasteiz visited Euskal Etxea of Shanghai during a cultural exchange with China

The group of students from Gasteiz during their visit to Shanghai

A group of 30 students from Gasteiz, accompanied by their teachers, have been visiting China this last month on a cultural exchange with their peers at the Pinghe Bilingual School in Shanghai.  During their stay the youth from Vitoria-Gasteiz had direct contact with the Chinese reality of Shanghai, visited the Euskal Etxea there, and also visited with companies and Basque professionals who work and live in the city.

On the 152nd anniversary of Gral. Rodriguez, the Eusko Aterpea Basque club made a priceless gift to the city

The Eusko Aterpea Basque club made an important donation with great historic value to the city of Gral. Rodrigues on its 152nd Anniversary

As part of the city’s anniversary activities, the Eusko Aterpea Basque club presented the city with 12 unique Books linked to the foundation and history of Gral Rodriguez, including the city’s first book of records.  The books were received at the Basque club by anonymous donation and now will now become a part of the heritage of the local Bernardo de Irigoyen Museum.

Christina Irigoyen, Californian from Erratzu: “I feel Basque and American, without one or the other, I wouldn’t be me”

California-Basque Christina Irigoyen often travels to Canada, the US or Singapore for her work at the University of Navarre

She is 29 and lives between Erratzu and Pamplona; today she is settled and used to it, but it took her a while when at the age of 14 she “emigrated back” from her native California to the land of her parents.  She feels both of her identities strongly, Basque and American.
