The Euskel Biotza Basque club in has gotten some important news over the last few months. First they represented the local community at two big festivals organized by the city; it achieved Legal Status and now hopes to finish the steps to join FEVA. In the meantime, it is getting ready for its big San Ignacio celebration, for which it is already working with the youth. Sabastian Ignacio Martin is, after elections the club’s new president.

For another year, Basque gastronomy has achieved a distinguished spot on the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world, by the British magazine Restaurant. Among the top ten selected, there are two Basques: the Mugaritz with Aduriz (#7) and Victor Arguinzoiniz’s Asador Etxebarri (#10). The Basque-Argentine Juan de Garay Foundation and the Bask in Motion travel agency in the Basque Country are preparing another group trip from Argentina to the Basque Country. The trip would begin on October 2 and would last 15 days, to visit a selection of places in the Basque Country on both sides of the Pyrenees. Anyone interested should reserve their spot and pay a deposit of 643 Euros before June 16.

This Wednesday, We are Basque-Argentines, by Magdalena Mignaburu and Josu Legarreta, will be presented in Baiona. The book was published as part of Basque Gove rnment's Urazandi collection and discusses the work by the Basque community in Argentina, through the history of Basque Congresses in this country.

The initiative is part of the professional Networking Service at the Provincial Government of Bizkaia through Bizkaia Talent to attract and connect with highly-qualified Basque researchers and professionals that work in third (party) countries. To date, nearly 340 professionals and 37 companies have participated in Be Basque Talent Conferences organized by Bizkaia Talen in Munich, Barcelona, Stuttgart, Hannover, Toulouse, Amsterdam and Dublin.

Writer and librarian, Arantzazu Amezaga Iribarren (Buenos Aires, 1943) was recognized last Thursday in Estella-Lizarra with the Manuel de Irujo Prize, an award created in 2001 that is presented annually by the Irujo Etxea Elkartea. After a traditional Aurresk, in the Santiago Plaza in front of the Irujo family home, the event moved to the conference hall in Montejurra, attended by a large number of authorities and a large audience. The intensive winter course of HABE’s Euskara Munduan program, is going to Mendoza, Argentina for the first time, co-organized by FEVA and the local Basque club. The Basque club will hold the classes at the clubhouse from July 16-23, and will also lodge the teachers who will participate in the subsequent teacher training on the 23rd and 24th.

Last weekend the community center, The Hive, of the London neighborhood of Dalston was converted into a meeting place for art fans and members of the Basque community who toured the halls to enjoy BaskFest first hand. The event provided art, drawings, dance, music and much more in a personal and approachable way.

A surprise visit by authorities this week at the Euskal Echea School in Llavallol. The helicopters that brought the president of the country, Mauricio Macri, and the Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Maria Eugenia Vidal, lanced at the Euskal Echea School in Llavallol. They were welcomed by the institution’s coordinator, Izaskun Ordoqui, and the general director of education, Jorge Luis Barros.

The application period for the 2016 Ethnology Grant from the Jose Miguel de Barandiaran Foundation is now open. With a budget of 10,000 Euros, anyone interested has until October 31 to present his, her or their projects. The Euskal Dantzarien Biltzarra (Basque Dancer's Association) has also opened its application period for grants in the area of Folklore. In the amount of 1,000 Euros, the deadline to apply for this is November 30. Both are accepting projects from the Diaspora.
