EuskalKultura.com is launching another raffle today for its readers:  deadline, next Thursday. Prizes include two books Modern Basque History: Eighteenth Century to the Present by Cameron Watson (UNR) and Aita deitzen zen gizona (A Man called Aita) by Joan Errea edited by Pello Salabur (Pamiela); the CD and CD-Rom, Dantzaz-ele, by Burgaintzi (Agorrila) and the CD My Trip: from New Leon to NY Island by Sonia de los Santos, that includes the Basque song “Txoria Txori,”; and a selection of Basque stickers.

Itxaso Uzkanga

The vocation displayed at the store in Amorebieta-Etxano (Zornotza) is close to its roots.  Born in Venezuela, Itxaso Uzkanga designs t-shirts and accessories from her Basque culture and heritage.  The article by Kevin Doyle on her store Ekin Harriari and Itxaso Uzkanga was published yesterday in Deia.

Soka is here, an app on Basque dance created by the Azkue Foundation and Euskal Kultur Erakundea

The Azkue Foundation has created the app “Soka” in hopes of spreading Basque dance.  Based on the exhibit “Soka, euskal dantzaren urratsetan,” (Soka, in the steps of Basque dance), a complete tour through the world of Basque dance was designed by Euskal Kultur Erakundea. The app has two parts; the first is a calendar and a map of dance performances in the Basque Country; and the second is a game with questions on Basque dance.  The app is free and is available for iOS and Android.

The Valladolid Basque Club choir ended its season with a concert in the city of Toro

The Gure Txoko Basque Club in Valladolid will now go on vacation but before that, they had the last performance of their season.  The group visited the city of Toro where they performed a recital at the San Julian church.  The trip was complemented by a meal where members of Gure Txoko enjoyed wines form the area.  The Basque club ended its season with the feast of San Juan.

Korrontzi concludes in England its tour of six countries that began at the Folklife Festival in Washington DC

The month of July has been a whirlwind of travel and concerts for the folk band Korrontzi. They have already covered thousands of kilometers and in more than a half dozen countries. In the beginning of July they played at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC, and since then they have traveled to Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, and Hungry.  Day after tomorrow, they will perform at the Warwick Folk Festival in England.

The Euskal Herria Museum in Gernika will inaugurate an exhibit on the Basque Diaspora this afternoon

Entitled, “Etxetik at.Euskal Diaspora,” (Away from home, the Basque Diaspora) the exhibit leads up to the European Heritage Conference, organized by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia that will be held in October.  The exhiit will be inaurated today at 6pm at the Museum that is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Kern County Basque Club has organized a concert to raise money for the Memoria Bizia Program

The Kern County Basque Club, in Bakersfield, CA has organized a concert by the New Orleans band, The Iguanas.  The event’s goal is to raise money and create a scholarship for a university student to intern as part of the Memoria Bizia oral history program that preserves the testimonies of older members of the local Basque community.

Lehendakari Urkullu presided the Etxepare Institute’s Board of Trustees Meeting yesterday

The annual Board of Trustees meeting of the Etxepare Basque Institute took place yesterday at the Lehendakaritza in Vitoria-Gasteiz.  Led by Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, also attending were the Minister of Education, Linguistic Policy and Culture, Cristina Uriarte, and the Director of the Etxepare Institute, Aizpea Goenaga, as well as Marian Elorza, Patxi Baztarrika, Josean Muñoz, Lorea Bilbao, Koldo Martinez, Xabi Paya and Felipe Juaristi, among other members.

The Quebec’s Euskaldunak Association celebrates its 20th anniversary with three days of festivities and activities
