Flores, Uruguay Basque Club will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a Basque Festival September 7, 10-11

The Euskal Etxea in the Uruguayan Department of Flores will celebrate a quarter century since its foundation with its fourth Basque Festival that will take place in Trinidad on September 7, 10-11. The festivities include a varied program of activities that will also include the participation of other clubs from Uruguay and Brazil.

In the Argentine Province of Misiones, the Eusko Etxea in Corpus Christi once again held a large program of activities at its traditional Basque-Argentine Cultural festival.  The event, was dedicated to Saint Ignatius and featured the figure of the saint who was born in Loyola, Gipuzkoa.

The San Ignacio celebration that the Basque Club organizes annually was the moment chosen to present the awards for its Literary Contest “Amazing Stories.”  In fact, due to the large echo of the contest, some of the winning texts also came from outside of the country, and after the winners were announced, the club will mail the prizes to those winners.

After singing in San Francisco and Gardnerville, Menditarrak will perform this weekend at Chino’s Basque Picnic

Still on tour in the west, and after participating last weekend at the SFBCC Jaialdia in San Francisco, and singing last Tuesday at the JT Basque Restaurant in Gardnerville, NV, they are now getting ready for the Chino Basque picnic that always coincides with Labor Day weekend. After Chino they will travel to Bakersfield, CA where they will perform at the Wool Growers Basque Restaurant before returning to the Basque Country.

The Aurrera Basque Club in Baradero, Argentina celebrated San Ignacio and the Bicentennial of Argentina’s Independence

During its San Ignacio tribute the Aurrera Basque Club in Baradero also commemorated the Bicentennial of Argentina’s Independence.

The Basque community in Baradero, in the province of Buenos Aires, held an event at the city’s Historic Museum to commemorate, as every year, the feast of San Ignacio of Loyola.  At the same time, the Basque club also commemorated the Bicentennial of Argentina’s Independence and unveiled a plaque at the entrance of the local Museum.

Basque painter and artist Judas Arrieta has created a mural at the Modern Hotel of Boise, entitled "Wonder Stories", as a part of an artistic residency program. Today, the artist will officially unveil this piece of art and the Modern is throwing a party with cocktails, pintxos, live music and a game of I-Spy with Arriets, reports the Boise Weekly.

The Mayor of Chascomus welcomed members of the local Basque club that is celebrating 25 years

The Mayor of Chascomus in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires, welcomed yesterday a delegation from the Zingirako Euskaldunak Basque club. The club is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, for which it is preparing several initiatives that involved the whole community.  Representing the Basque club were Juan Ignacio Cazaux, Gustavo Armendáriz and Ana María Sallenave.

Deadline to apply for Gaztemundu 2016 is next week: Gastronomy is this year’s theme

The Basque Culinary Center in Donostia will be involved in the organization of this year’s Gaztemundu

Next Thursday is the deadline to apply for Gaztemundu 2016 that will focus on Basque gastronomy this year.  Remember that when you apply, interested persons need to send along a video of them explaining a culinary proposal. There are 25 spots.  If you are interested, don’t wait and apply right away.

Winners of the latest EuskalKultura.com raffle are in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Spain

The winner of the July EuskalKultura.com raffle have been chosen.  The five prizes go to respectively, Brazil (Modern Basque History), Argentina (Burgaintzi CD), Uruguay (Aita Deitzen zen Gizona), Spain (CD by Sonia de los Santos) and Argentina (sticker collection).  This time participants wrote from more than a dozen countries, from Chile to Canada and Australia to Germany.

Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan will hold its annual festival in Isaba on September 3rd, with the motto “Urrinean biltruk”

In the Basque from Roncal Valley, the motto “Urrinean biltruk” (United in Distance), the Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan Association invites everyone to participate in its annual “amerikanoen” sheepherder festival that will take place on September 3rd in Isaba. A full program is planned that includes a visit to the Ethnographic Museum in Isaba and the traditional meal, among other activities.  The chosen motto wants to “reflect the capacity of our herders to live their lives and work in such faraway lands and that are so different from our own.”
