The host of SNV 2018, has announced the date for the festival: it will begin on October 29 and will run through the first week of November. Moreover, this is also the beginning of Denak Bat’s anniversary festivities with an interesting proposal of music, dance, and food, not only at the clubhouse but also outside. This weekend also coincides with the celebration of the first FEVA board meeting in “la Feliz”

From February 8-18, ZinemaldiaCat, the Basque Film Festival in Catalonia will provide fans a panorama of the most recent Basque production in the 7th art. The festival, that is part of the Catalonia Film Festivals, will take place again in the Girona Cinemas, organized by the Barcelona Euskal Etxea. Nine titles are part of this year’s official collection with works like Handia or Errementari in fiction, or the documentaries, Converso or Volar.

The Etxepare Institute, an autonomous body in the Basque Government’s Department of Culture, is looking for a person to run its Directorate for the Promotion and Diffusion of Basque Culture. The requirements for potential candidates follows. Keep in mind that the deadline to apply is next Tuesday, February 13th.

The intensive summer course to train Basque teachers is usually one of the first activities of every year in Basque clubs in Argentina. In 2018, it was the Chacabuco Guillermo Larregui Basque Club’s turn to host the event sponsored by FEVA, for the first time in 20 years. The director of Euskara Munduan, Kinku Zinkunegi, shared his positive evaluation of the Barnetegi, as well as shared news about changes in the program.

As every year, several Basque clubs and Basque communities around the world joined in the tradition of Santa Ageda or Agate Deuna choirs in the beginning of February when the Basque Country honors the Holy Martyr of Catania. On the eve of the feast of Santa Ageda (the 5th) the tradition is to go out and sing traditional verses, going from house to house with walking sticks that are struck rhythmically on the ground. Basque clubs in Boise, Madrid, and Valencia also celebrated this Basque tradition.

The theme of the tenth edition of the “Amazing Stories” Contest is “Unforgettable Stories” and the deadline to submit works is May 31st. The texts can be presented in Guaraní, Basque or Spanish, and there is only one category: short stories. Along with this news the Eusko Etxea also announced the upcoming publication of three anthologies that will include submissions received over the 10 years of the contest.

The new president of the Eusko Etxea in Caracas, Ibane Azpiritxaga, has sent a video message to members and friends of the club, via Jazoera TV, inviting those who feel close to the Basque club in Caracas, in one way or another, and the Venezuelan Basque community in general to collaborate with the club and join efforts to provide the best possible future for a rich past whose pioneers deserve providing continuity and new dynamics to the important work that they began.

The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country (BOPV-EHAA) published the Resolution dated December 21st from the Directorate of the Basque Community Abroad awarding the 2018 fellowships specialized in the area of Basque collectivities and Basque clubs abroad. Two of the four recipients will be stationed in Vitoria-Gasteiz, with the other two going to the US and Argentina respectively

The Necochea Euzko Etxea combined two festivities with the beginning of its annual program of activities, and carried out the Tamborrada from Donostia on the main stage at the local Festival of Collectivities. The festivities for San Sebastian continued the following week over three days with a cider house, pintxo day and a dance.

They wrote us from the Eusko Etxea in Valparaiso to let us know that last Friday, January 26th, members and friends of the club gathered for a festive event to inaugurate the club’s new library. The event was led by club president, Eñaut Gereñu, and Vice-president Gonzalo Xabier Arellano. They were accompanied by the sounds of the Txalaparta that was played by members of Santiago Euzko Etxea.
