The MercoMus Tournament in April in Latin America and the International Tournament in Macachin, Argentina in September are the largest international tournaments in Basque Mus. MercoMus will take place April 11-15 in Montevideo. National Champions will then compete other winners at similar tournaments that will be held in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay...The World Mus Tournament will take place in Macachin, Pampa Argentina September 22-October 1.

Member artists of Gure Txoko and the club itself participated all week long at the Sydney Design Festival. It was a creative group, led by architect Cristina Aranzubia, accompanied by Lidia Arriola, Arrate Arbiza and Usue Garmendia regarding dancing, the stories of Ionetxi Ni Neu, music by Oreka Tx and light design by Raffaele De Vita. Tomorrow is the last day to contemplate the installation offered, “Archein,” at the Gure Txoko headquarters.

The land belongs to the Yacyreta – EBY binational entity who is giving the use to land to the Euskal Jatorri Basque Club under said agreement to build its clubhouse, and carry out its activities. The agreement was signed last Wednesday and so the Basque club will hold an official event next Tuesday where they will take symbolic possession of the land, holding its first board meeting there.

The Euskal Etxea in Cuba – the Basque-Navarrese Charity Association of Havana, will celebrate International Women’s Day this afternoon. They also announced that it will carry out a Cultural Week at the end of March in conjunction with Aberri Eguna, inviting Basques and friends of Basque who live there, or who may be there visiting, to join them Monday March 26-Sunday April 1st.

The Basque Government’s minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumption, Alfredo Retortillo, inaugurated Euskadi’s Stand this morning at the ITB tourism Fair in Berlin, accompanied by the Director of Basquetour, the Basque Tourist Agency, Harkaitz Millan. A stand measuring 160 m2 is promoting the top Basque touristic spots to the German market. Bilbao Tourism is also present with a space at the Basquetour stand with another located in the “Gay & Lesbian Travel” pavilion.

Since the beginning of 2017, the author of Basque Rural Cooking has prepared a typical meal from her Basque recipes every Thursday to offer to her neighbors. The initiative began timidly but as time went by, it grew in popularity and the list of requests also grew. In the words of Marita Echave “the dishes are homemade, the distribution dynamic allows reaching many people and I hope that the Basque club can adopt it so that everyone becomes aware and enjoys Basque cooking.”

The International Alliance for Mountain Film (IAMF) has renewed its team last weekend at a meeting held under the auspices of the Domzale Festival in Slovenia. Director of the Bilbao Mendi Film Festival (BMFF) was named the new president and will serve for the next three years. The IAMF is comprised of 23 mountain film festivals plus the Musseo Nazionale della Montagna in Turin. BMFF has been a member since 2011.

The Euskal Etxea in Ayacucho inaugurated its new clubhouse last weekend. The event took place at the clubhouse and was very well-attended. The ribbon cutting was attended by the club’s first president, Mariano Oillataguerre, as well as its current president, Ignacio Echeverria. They were accompanied by the town’s Mayor, Emilio Cordonnier, and outgoing Mayor Pablo Zubiaurre (see photo gallery).

March began and with the imminent end of summer, teachers in Argentina are submerged in their Basque course organization for 2018. All over the country, Basque clubs that provide classes at all levels, with multiple options including for clubs that don’t have instructors, the possibility of learning Euskera and about the culture of the Basque Country in online. In the city of Olavarria, in the province of Buenos Aires, Basque will be taught for the first time at the Universidad Nacional del Centro.

“Dantza mokauak,” is taught by masters Patxi laborda, Sabin Bikandi, Katalin Zarate and Anartz Ormaza, and will take place Saturday and Sunday March 3-4 in Areatza, “through a methodology to learn in a fun, clear, simple and appropriate way for the world that we live in.” Saturday night there will be a dance for workshop participants that is open to the public to enjoy their progress. Aiko Taldea is a referential group in the area of promotion and transmission of traditional Basque dance.
