EuskarAbentura includes all of the ingredients to become an unforgettable experience for 120 youth. From July 1-31, they will tour the seven provinces of Euskal Herria, following the Camino de Santiago, while participating in cultural visits, workshops, games and sports activities. The activity is free, and youth from the Diaspora are also invited to participated, supported by two scholarships for this group. If you, or someone you know is interested, sign up now!

The city of Gral. Rodriguez held a tribute on Women’s Day in the city’s main plaza. The person honored by the Basque community was Alicia Itcea who has spent years at the local club learning, teaching and spreading the "lingua navarrorum.” The local Basque club also announced a talk on Saturday about Basque musical instructs and on Holy Friday, they will sell calamari as a fundraiser.

The Basque language is taught in different places in Madrid, including the Basque Club and the Official School of Languages. Now, the Official School of Languages of Madrid opened the process for a public servant Basque teacher position. The position was published in the Official Bulletin of the Community of Madrid last Tuesday, March 13th, along with other positions in the field of education. Deadline to apply is 15 days from the announcement’s publication in the Bulletin.

The group led by Aitor Alava currently doesn’t have its own locale. This isn’t a huge obstacle however, because in the words of the director, “some rooms, parks and plazas are the perfect places to continue dancing.” After Dantza Plazan in Pergamino, the group will begin rehearsing in April at the Cultural Center “Las mil y un Artes,” in Buenos Aires.

The Basque delegation attended the opening ceremonies at the UN of the 62nd Commission on the Status of Women. They have spent the week holding meetings and visits, accompanied by the Delegate of Euskadi in the US, Ander Caballero, with a large number of bodies and institutions including with representatives of the New York Basque club, and in Washington DC with California Congressman, John Garamendi.

Boise, Idaho will be the site beginning tomorrow, March 15-18th of an international conference, “Memory and Emotion, Women’s Stories: Constructing Meaning from Memory,” with the participation of dozens of researcher from the US and beyond. The conference was organized by the Department of World Languages and the Eloise Garmendia Bieter Chair at Boise State University (BSU)

At as session yesterday of the Government’s council, an order was approved to provide support to researchers and visitors to St. Antony’s College at Oxford University during the 2018-2019 academic year. This support, 50,036 Euros, is the result of an agreement of collaboration between the Department of Education and Oxford University subscribed to in 2007, to develop the Basque Visiting Fellow Program.

Hailee Brown attends the University of Mount Union. For her spring 2018 college term she decided to study abroad through the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Bilbao, Spain. USAC has been sending students to the Basque Country to study abroad for more than 35 years. This is Hailee’s story of her first week in Bilbao.

The Basque-Argentine Business Chamber, thanks to Gertuko, a Basque consulting firm specializing in commercial and collaborative networks between Latin America and the Basque Country, invites everyone to participate in this international initiative that hopes to develop manufacturing in Latin America. A Business mission of Latin American Businesses will visit the Basque Country may 29-June 7 and a Mission of Basque Businesses will travel to Latin America July 2-6th.

In hopes of promoting the internationalization of Basque literature, the Etxepare Institute annually supports the translation of Basque works. In the last few weeks, two of these translations were published, and are now available in English: Nevada Days by Bernardo Atxaga, and Twist by Harkatiz Cano. Nevada Days was published by British publisher, MacLehose Press, based in London; while Twist was published by US publisher, Archipelago, based in Brooklyn, New York.
