Founded in 1895 in Buenos Aires 'Iparraldeko Euskal Etxea¡' will commemorate another anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika along with Aberri Eguna with a speech by Cesar Arrondo, followed by the showing of the documentary Gernika, and a toast. The event will take place on April 25 at 7pm at the building located on Moreno Street 1300 where regular activities of the culture subcommittee take place like film, Euskera and mus.

Javier Ederra will leave his position at the FEVA offices to become, after the vote, the Federation’s new president. In fact, the election is set for April 21st and only one list of candidates was presented, with the native of Bahia Blanca as president. He will be accompanied during the 2018-2020 term by Carlos Miguelena as secretary and Elba Mocoroa as treasurer.

The official celebration of Aberri Eguna was on April 1st, a day where ceremonies took place in the Basque Country and the Diaspora. Basque clubs and Basque institutions in Argentina also joined in the festivities on Easter Sunday, and others did so, and are doing so through April. In today’s article, we provide a photo album of the Day of the Basque Homeland 2018 with some of the images that have come to us.

The work was presented in February at the El Bolson International Clown Festival in the Argentine Province of Chubut. On Sunday, it will premiere in the capital city. In this monologue, the actor from Bilbao fuses the routine of a Basque waiter with Basajaun, one of the main Basque mythological characters. “Basajaun. Bestia. Bruto.” Will debut in Buenos Aires in the Pan y Arte Hall, with admission being a donation.

The Etxepare Basque Institute has begun the process to select six lecturers who will teach Basque and Basque culture at seven European universities: Université Sorbonne Nouvelle de Paris (France), Université de Pau et des Pays de l’ Adour (Baiona and Pau, France), University of Breno (Czech Republic), University Adam Mickiewicz in Poznan (Poland), University Eötvös Lorand in Budapest (Hungary), University of Szeged (Hungary) and the University of Constance (Germany).

The Basque Language and Culture Lecturer from the Etxepare Institute at the Freie University in Berlin has organized an entire week, “Euskal Etxea,” April 3-9 with a complete program of talks, seminars, films and literary activities. Remember that the Etxepare network has lectureships at universities in Constance, Leipzig, Freie in Berlin and Goethe in Frankfurt, as well as the Eduardo Chillida Chair also at the latter.

The Basque Government and the Peace Museum Foundation in Gernika have agreed to promote the organization and implementation of a plan to display the exhibit “The Bombing of Gernika.” The initiative is aimed at the Basque community abroad, where the memory of the bombing holds enormous symbolic value. Participation of Basque clubs and assocations will be asked so that together with their respective Delegations of Euskadi they can house and display the exhibit.

The program will take place weekly, and will run for an hour broadcast on FM Capital; every Saturday local commentators will talk about various topics related to Basque culture like film, literature, and the most important celebrations of the Basque calendar. The Comahue Basque Club will also begin to finalize other 2018 projects in April like its Basque workshops and dance as well as a seminar on Basque literature to mention a few.

At a ceremony that will take place on Saturday April14th at the Truillo City Hall, the first Board of Directors of the recently-formed Basque-Peruvian Cultural Center in Trujillo, Trujilloko Euskal Etxea will be sworn in. The club’s president, Leonel Berrocal, will address those attending along with vice-president, Wilfredo Lizarzaburu, who will provide some background, the history and the goals of the club. After lunch, there will also be a horse exhibition.

The invitation is aimed a Basque youth between the ages of 18-30 years old. Participants are responsible for their passage to Villa Maria in the province of Cordoba and the local Basque club will provide room and board. “Anima Zaitez!” is an initiative of the Euzko Etxea Basque Club in Villa Maria and this year will take place July 7-22, 2018. During their stay, the youth will teach workshops in Basque dance and music, Euskera, Basque sports, and gastronomy. The deadline to apply is May 9th.
