The Patagonian Basque club in Comodoro, in the Argentine province of Chubut, is getting ready for a week of activities to commemorate its 95th anniversary. The celebration will begin on Sunday the 13th with mass and will conclude a week later, when the club hosts the 5th Meeting of Patagonian Basque Clubs.

The 2018 Eusko Ikaskuntza award goes to Teresa del Valle. Creator of an important line of work focused on Social and Cultural Anthropology, the jury stressed her pioneering and lifelong contributions “for cultural development with a gender perspective in Vasconia.” Teresa del Valle is linked, among others, to the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno where she founded in the 1990s, along with Dr. Linda White and Dr. Jeronima Echeverria, the Consortium for the Study of Basque Women.

The Koldo Mitxelena Chair at the University of Chicago is part of the network of Basque studies chairs created by the Etxepare Basque Institute at universities around the world. This year’s guest professor in Chicago is Ricardo Etxepare who is responsible for organizing and teaching this year’s program. At the heart of which is a seminar on Basque Linguistics, today, with the participation of several experts.

The Lehendakari’s trip will be in early November and will be his first official visit to Argentina. Besides participating in the Semana Vasca activities, Iñigo Urkullu will also attend the Mid-Congress meeting of Basque collectivities in Latin America that will take place during the event in Mar del Plata.

The goal of the “IV Conference of Basque-Venezuelan Fraternization” is to examine and attempt to find solutions to problems that attack the Basque clubs in the country. The event will take place on Saturday, June 2nd in Naguanagua -Valencia. Living in Venezuela it's not easy nowadays. That, together with some other factors, make that the Venezuelan Basques are facing a very complicated situation, with militancy and resistance worthy of commendation,

The design of Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country is integral. It includes a plurality and variety of cultural expression. But also a variety and plurality of invited institutions with the participation of not only clubs in the area, but also stands, dantzaris, and contributions from Basque clubs in the interior. “A huge success!” This is how Arantxa Anitua described yesterday. The president of Laurak Bat added the numbers to the excellent reviews received from participating Basque clubs and companies who participated with stands. Remember that “Buenos Aires Celebrates,” is a festival supported by the General Directorate of Institutional Relations of the City of Buenos Aires, and held in a strategic public spot: Avenida de Mayo that was transformed into a pedestrian walkway.

Neighbors and tourists will be able to enjoy the mega exhibition of Basque culture in the heart of Buenos Aires. Organized by Laurak Bat with the collaboration of more clubs and entities, the BAC festival will gather representatives of the Basque culture, from Argentina as well as from the Basque Country. Among the late are Gorka Alvarez Aranburu (Basque Government) and Parliamentarian Jasone Agirre. There will also be representatives from Gure Esku Dago, and FIVU also confirmed its attendance from Uruguay.

Everyone from Canada residing in the Basque Country is invited to the event. This sister-city relationship, that was signed almost a year ago, will be celebrated in this endearing and festive way. The event will include a meeting and reception for Canadians, followed by a visit of the Town Hall and the Museum, as well as the planting of a red maple tree, the emblem of Canada, in front of the local Tree of Gernika in the Antonio Cuesta Plaza. The fatal attack on the Bizkaian village occurred on April 26th and ceremonies began in the Diaspora on that day, and have been extended for days after. Events at clubs in Uruguay, in Salto and Montevideo, were attended by Gorka Alvarez Aranburu. The Delegation of Euskadi in Buenos Aires also held an event at the Kirchner Cultural Center, while clubs in Chile and Peru weren’t left behind holding tributes with dancing and music.
