This event is organized annually by the Euskaltegi Bilbo Zaharra to recognize Basque students’ efforts and contribution to society. On this occasion, the chosen work was Kresala by Txomin Agirre. As every year since its inception, a representation of Basque students from Basque clubs around the world participate in the reading, via video, at the event that takes place at the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao. Basque writer, Kirmen Uribe, began the reading that ran 12 hours from 8am to 8pm.

More than one hundred people with varying degrees of relationship, all with the Arrazola last name, gathered at their 3rd International Family Reunion carried out in Cartagena de Indias. This gathering enjoyed the same success as prior reunions so organizers have already set a date for the fourth in 2020 in Belgium and 2022 in Mexico.

Basque weekend beginning tomorrow in Winnemucca, Nevada. The 2018 NABO Convention will kick off the weekend program. Beginning at 7:30am, delegates from the US and Canada Basque associations and clubs that make up NABO will meet at their Annual Convention, which, among other points, will hold elections for a new president. In the afternoon, the beginning of a full festival program, with music, dance, food, contests, exhibitions and a full Basque program.

The symbolic hug took place around the sapling of the Tree of Gernika that is growing in Centennial Plaza. This is how the Basque community in Villa Maria will join in the Human Chain that will take place in the Basque Country called by Gure Esku Dago that will unite the cities of Donostia, Bilbao, and Gasteiz. Other localities like Chascomus and Rosario also organized similar events. At “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” an event was also held on the Avenida de Mayo.

The Basque Government Council approved the call for 2018 grants for Basque clubs to meet health care needs and situations of dire need of club or community members, at its meeting yesterday. This year’s budget is 202,000 Euros. The Official Bulletin of the Basque Country will publish the call in the coming days.

Dantzaris always want to dance and those in Rosario couldn’t wait until September when the Basque club will celebrate Dantzari Day. That is why current and former members of the dance group from Zazpirak Bat got together last Friday, June 1st for what they called a Preview of Dantzari Day. Accompanying this article is a summary of the club’s latest activities.

The festival was held last Sunday and gathered two dozen communities in the Bicentennial pedestrian area in Concordia, Argentine province of Entre Rios. The local club, Ibaiko Izarra, member of the Association of United Immigrants, was part of the festivities with both food and a dance performance. The latter featuring the presentation of the txiki dantzaris.

The annual event is held in a different locality in Navarre and Navarrese and descendants that reside outside of the provincial community celebrated its 30th edition last Saturday. The Day of the Living Abroad Navarrese is the fruit of collaboration between the Federation of Navarrese Homes in Spain, the Government of Navarre and the town hall of the town that is hosting the event. The debt to and recognition of people living elsewhere was mentioned in the speeches made by the highest authorities.
