Necochea, Argentina. Based on an idea by Marcia Barnaba, Basque student at the club and chef in charge of the activity, the Euzko Etxea Basque Club in Necochea held the “Cooking for Txikis,” workshop on Friday May 31st. Children learned how to prepare sweet and sour pintxos, ham and cheese flowers special for celiac, and vanilla pancakes, under the direction of the sukaldari in charge along with the contribution of nutritionist Gabriela Renteria and the collaboration of the center’s teachers.
During the activity, 75 children were divided into teams and each team was working on some aspect of Basque culture, for example, Euskera, beginning with learning colors.
In the words of Kiti Zubillaga, “the activity was a success because of the number of children that participated and also because this was also their first encounter with the club. Many learned of the workshop on social media and so we know that this is a resource that we must utilize,” the club president said.
