Pau, Francia. The “Lagunt eta Maita” Basque club in Pau will begin this year’s classes today at 20:00. The club has been looking for teachers to meet the high demand for these classes since August. Even though they have found one teacher, another two will be necessary to take care of such a large group.
The Gau Eskola classes at “Lagunt eta Maita” are given on Mondays from 8-10pm at the club’s new headquarters (Av. Dur Buros, 94). Due to internal organizational reasons, classes can only be given on Monday, and so the group can not be divided between different days of the week. Two more teachers are also needed in order to make smaller, more manageable, teaching groups that could all be taught on the same day.
The club has asked neighboring Basques for their help in order to not leave these eager students hanging. Prior experience is not necessary; all that is needed is to be a Basque speaker who wants to share his/her language with others. HABE provides educational materials, training support, as well as payment for classes taught.
Anyone willing to help, please contact Bernadette Cabantous (00-33-(0) 5 59 81 24 03) or the President Jean Pierre Urrutia (00-33-(0) 6 12 72 46 64), or email laguntetamaita@wanadoo.fr.
