Boise, ID, USA. “A Basque thank you”; the Basque community in Idaho will hold a ceremony tomorrow morning in the Capitol Building to express their gratitude to the State of Idaho and to Pete Cenarrusa, who served as Secretary of State for many years. They recognize and thank Idaho for its support of the Basques through many cultural and social programs and political initiatives. Cenarrusa, one of the most well known and beloved members of the local Basque community, passed away last september at 95 years old.
The event will begin with a presentation as part of a joint meeting of the Commerce and Business Committees of the House and Senate. It will be an open session, and the Basque community and anyone else interested is invited to attend. The presentation includes various talks about the importance of international relations and trade to the State of Idaho, with case studies from the Basque Country, Mexico and Canada.
The presentations will be followed by a reception at 5:00 p.m. with Basque dancing with Oinkari Basque Dancers and Herribatza Dantzariak, music by local group Txantxangorriak, and a txalaparta concert.
