Los Angeles, CA. Crowd-funding websites offer artists the opportunity to riase money for future projects from internet users. Most of them set a time limit −in this case 45 days− for the works to be funded and, should the project not gain the expected economic support the money would be given back to the funders.
But this is not the case of Indiegogo, that gives the artist the money garnered (deducting a 9% for the company). “That is why we chose this site,” admits Koldo. And adds: “If we make $10,000 we’ll be happy.”

They set a “very high” goal, $30,000, but even if they don’t achieve it, “anything we might get will be welcomed.” The short will be shot no matter how much money they get, because “making a short-movie profitable is very complicated. They’re like cover letters for new filmmakers, like my brother.”
The $2,500 they have already made came from “family and friends.” “But, in the second phase we’d like to broaden the circle of funders to other people, like Jon Kortajarena’s fans, for instance.”
Anyone can donate to the project from $5 up to $7,500, through Indiegogo. But in the words of Eguren the $15 option is “a very good one, because it’s not a lot of money but still gives you the opportunity to watch the film, online, before it comes out.”
Koldo Eguren ended the conversation with Euskal Kultura encouraging members of the Basque diaspora to collaborate, because it’s not easy to begin a film career in the States and “because it is not about one person giving a lot, but about a lot of people giving something.”
