The tournament took place at the club’s sports facilities in City Bell.  Hosted by the Peña “Bixente Ibarguren,” the goal was to spend a day outside and promote the typical card game from Euskal Herria, with both novices and experts participating.  After this successful beginning, the Euzko Etxea has already opened enrollment for its 2018 activities.

La Plata, Argentina.  The tournament took place on February 18^th at the Basque Club sports facilities in Las Banderitas, in City Bell.  After the drawing to establish teams, the tournament had two stages: the first round before lunch, the second, and the final in the afternoon.  According to Maria Fernanda Astigarraga, club reference and muslari in training, “in the beginning the veterans were more relaxed and the novices, nervous; and as the games went on, they all began to enjoy themselves playing this traditional Basque card game.”

Lunch was also a special event since those gathered enjoyed a beautiful roast suckling pig donated by Daniel Sancholuz, from Denak Bat in Cañuelas.  In the afternoon, the final took place between Jose Luis Macchi and Andoni Azcarate, against Jose Umaran Iza and Juantxi Yacomini, with Macchi and Azcarate winning.  In the words of Astigarraga, “we enjoyed a different Sunday,andt we hope that it will be the beginning of many more, as well as many more occasions to share games that allow experienced muslaris (including world champions) to help us strengthen the game among those that are just learning.”

2018 Activitie

Like many other Basque clubs in Argentina, the club in La Plata is also currently planning its annual program.  On March 8^th, International Women’s Day, they will participate in the “Outstanding Woman of the Collectivities,” event hosted by the city of La Plata.

From March 12-17, enrollment is open for the various Euskera classes (beginning, intermediate, advanced and intensive as well as a workshop in Euskera and dance for txikis.)  Anyone interested can enroll via email: secretaria@cvascolaplata.org.ar.
