As part of her tour of the interior of the Province of Buenos Aires, the Basque Government representative for Argentina and Mercosur visited the city of Trenque Lauquen where she met with club members and held a press conference.  After the reception, the Basque community celebrated another anniversary of the Euskal Etxea paying tribute to its founders.

Trenque Lauquen, Argentina.  Members and friends of the Euskal Sustraiak Basque Club celebrated another anniversary in the clubhouse’s newly-remodeled multi-purpose room.  As every year, a number of important guests joined in the festivities that included dinner Basque dancing and a live music show.

On the occasion of the anniversary, the board of directos paid tribute to the founding members of the club, Celia and Jose Echaniz and Haydee Merino who was presented a gift.  As Alejandra Bengochea, club president explained to EuskalKultura.com, “Haydee was elected in Trenque Lauquen “Fortinera 2017” at the event recognizing her work for the community and her commitment to the society.  And so we also wanted to recognize her.”  After the addresses, it was the honorees that got to blow out the birthday candles.  When it was time for a toast, the club’s board thanked all their guests for attending and also stressed the commitment of the members of all the boards of directors who have served the club.

There was also Basque dancing thanks to the club dancers who performed a Fandango and Arin Arin.  The night ended with everyone taking to the floor attracted by the music of Lucas Moggia.

Before leaving one another, the board also reminded everyone that the next event will take place on May 27th with Carlos Gabilondo and a Basque film.  The films chosen for the occasion are Gure sorlekuaren bila (2015) by Josu Martinez and the Swedish short Basker (1963).  After the films there will be a pintxo tasting.

Visit by Sara Pagola

Sara Pagola, Basque Government Delegate, visited Trenque Lauquen on May 18th and met with club members.  In the words of Alejandra Bengochea, who is also the club’s Basque teacher, “We talked about activities and the club, and especially about how to get youth involved, projects, and how to carry them out.  It was a very good meeting, very rich in exchanges of points of view.”  Pagola also spoke to local media and highlighted the work done by Euskal Sustraiak to spread the Basque culture and especially Euskera.
