He passed away in Bogotá on April 22, 2018 at age 89.

His father was Paulino Gómez Sáiz, a prominent socialist militant, who was civil governor of Bizkaia, general director of security and minister of government in the government of Juan Negrín until the end of the Spanish Civil War. Paulino Jr. arrived in Colombia at the age of 11. following the exile of his family. He studied architecture and worked as an architect until his retirement, having left buildings and work in different places of the Colombian geography.

The function in his memory will be on April 24 at the Modern Gymnasium Chapel (CRA 9 N 74-99).
