06/07/2024 - Gardnerville, Nevada, USA
Martin was called by God after fighting the good fight. He died in the arms of his loving wife of 63 years. Martin was born in Erro, Navarra, Spain to Jose and Rosa Erro De Arraiz. He was the fourth of twelve children.
He left Spain at the age of 18 with a contract to herd sheep for a Nevada/California sheep company and was placed at the Arcularius Ranch in Tonopah, NV. While transporting hay, Martin was badly burnt when the trailer of hay caught on fire due to a backfire. Unable to work for a minimum of 6 months, he chose to visit his brother in Bakersfield. He was then asked to accompany a fellow sheepherder to Gardnerville, NV to get out of the constant fog that lingered day after day in Bakersfield. During this trip to Gardnerville, he visited the East Fork Bar and Hotel where, unbeknownst to him, he would meet his future wife and soul mate, Sandra Borda Corda. After getting Married in 1961, Martin and Sandy would go on to welcome three children into the world, Rosemarie (deceased), Dr. Martin Jose, and Michael.
Martin was known by most for his hard work and willingness to help anyone. He worked most hours in which he was awake, but always found time for his family, and when given the time, enjoyed a good social occasion with singing and dancing. His other passions included hunting and fishing with his sons.
Martin is survived by his wife, Sandra (Sandy) Corda Arraiz, two sons Dr. Martin Jose Arraiz and Michael Arraiz, Daughter in-law Jacqueline (Danielle) Day Arraiz, four granddaughters, Evamarie Arraiz Estrada (Jose Juan), Mackenzie Arraiz, Sophia Arraiz, Kattalin Arraiz and two grandsons, Jeramiah Evans and Jespn Evans, along with two great grandchildren Fabian and Alania Estrada.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemarie Arraiz as well as his parents and five siblings.
Martin, otherwise known as “Aita” to his children and “Apitxi” to his grandchildren, was so very loved and admired. He will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace with God as well as with family and friends who are waiting to welcome him.
