Maria Concepción Uriz died on April 13, 2022 at her home in Lodi after a 20 year battle with scleroderma and pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in Lekaroz, Spain on October 21, 1942.
In 1973 she came to the Unites States on vacation and attended a Basque cultural event in Chino where she met her future husband, Faustino Uriz. They grew up in Basque villages just one and a half miles from each other but had never met in Spain.
Maria never went back to live in Europe, but instead started her life in California.
Maria and Faustino married in 1975 had two children in Los Angeles before moving to Lodi in 1978.
They had a family-run ranch for many years and later Maria worked for Lodi Unified School District as a cook for 18 years.
She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Miguel Damboriena and Maria Iribarren; brother, Puentxo Damboriena; sister, Maria Dolores Damboriena; and brother, Miguel Damboriena.
Maria is survived by her husband, Faustino Uriz; daughter, Izaskun Uriz; son, Patxi Uriz; sister, Chefa Damboriena; brother, Julian Damboriena; brother, Javier Damboriena; and three grandchildren, Ian, Joaquin, and Teagan.
A mass in her memory will be held on Thursday, May 12 at 10:00am at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 215 West Walnut Street, Lodi, CA 95242.
