Marcel Martin Membrede passed away September 8th at the age of 81 in Bakersfield, California.
Marcel was born in Bidarray, France and came to the United states at the age of 18 where he worked as a sheepherder in Buffalo, Wyoming. He later moved to Bakersfield, California where he met and married Hazel Argentino.
Marcel started a career at Pyrenees bakery where he worked for 34 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and often made his summer vacations to McGee Creek. Marcel was a active member of the Kern County Basque Club where he served as president, vice president and on the board of directors. Marcel over seen the building of the Kern County Basque Club food booth at the Kern County fairgrounds and the handball court at the Kern County Basque Club.
Marcel was preceded in death by his parents Jean Baptiste and Mary Jane Membrede.
He is survived by wife Hazel, son John (Dawn), daughter Theresa (Bobby) and granddaughter Miranda, and his brother Jean Lucien.
Services will be held September 29th at 10am at St Joseph's Church, 1515 Baker Street, Bakersfield, California 93305. Burial following at Greenlawn Memorial , 3700 River Blvd, Bakersfield, California 93305.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kern County Basque Club Scholarship Fund in Marcel's name.
