My husband, Juan M. Recalde was born on July 14, 1943 in Markina, Vizcaya, España. He came to the United States in 1962, where he played jai alai in Miami. He later went on to play in West Palm Beach and Tijuana. In 1976, he came to play at Bridgeport Jai -Alai and retired as Assistant Players Manager in 1995. Juan enjoyed a great career as a jai- alai player and made so many cherished friends along the way. I was lucky enough to have met this handsome and loving man in 1978. We were married in 1980. Juan was the greatest Aita to our son, Mikel Recalde. He was also blessed to have the chance to welcome his wonderful grandson, Matthew T. Recalde into the world. Even if it was just for 7 months, I knew he was a proud Grandfather. He died on September 22, 2002, after fighting a brave battle against the neurodegenerative disease, Multiple System Atrophy. We all miss him so much.
I want everyone to remember my husband not only as a great jai- alai player, but more importantly, as a wonderful husband, father , grandfather, friend and a proud Basque man. His memory will live on in our hearts.
