John was born on March 6, 1931, in Mountain Home to Cipriano and Juanita Barrutia. He was married to Marie Pauline Perron of Chisholm, Maine for 36 years. From this union six children were born.

John worked on the construction of Anderson Ranch Dam from 1949-1951 when the Korean War called him and his brothers to serve. He served in the military (USAF) in Germany from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. Using the GI Bill, John attended Seattle University and graduated in 1962, earning a BS degree in Engineering. His first job after graduation was working for the Martin Company when the Titan One Intercontinental Ballistic Missile complexes were being built in Idaho. John worked at the Mtn. John had a passion for hunting and camping. He also took interest in running road races after his retirement, especially the Race to Robie Creek. He was very proud of his Basque heritage and was active in the Idaho Basque community. He was a charter member of the Oinkari Basque Dancers and loved playing accordion with his Basque friends.

John is preceded in death by his mother and father, his daughter, Cynthia, his sister Margarita and brothers Juan and Ralph.
