Frances Ann Uberuaga, 76, of Boise died on Monday, April 27, 2015 of natural causes. She died in the home in which she was raised and still lived.
A viewing will be Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Summers Funeral Home,1205 W. Bannock Street, Boise, Rosary to follow at 7 pm. There will be a funeral mass at 11 am on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 811 S. Latah, Boise. A reception will follow at the Basque Center, 6th and Grove, Boise.
Fran was born to Philip and Marie (Belaustegui) Uberuaga on July 11, 1938 in Boise. She was raised in a Basque family and was proud of her heritage. She was a longtime member of Euzkaldunak and the Aiztak Girls Club. Fran had a beautiful singing voice. Her first performance, singing and dancing, was in 1947 at Boise Music Week. More recently, she sang in the Biotzetik Choir. Her love of music also showed in her harmonica and piano playing. Her family always looked forward to her special Happy Birthday song.
Fran graduated from Boise High in 1956. She attended Boise Junior College and later earned her BA at Boise State University.
She taught at South Junior High, as well as Whitney and Monroe Elementary Schools.
She married her college sweetheart, Paul Schaffeld, and together they raised five awesome children. Later in life she married Fred Gooding (deceased).
Fran was an athlete and enjoyed playing softball, racquetball, and racing classic cars. She was a great supporter of the athletic endeavors of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Fran's loving nature was expressed by her participation in No One Dies Alone, Alzheimer's Support Group, as well as Catholic Charities. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and an Eucharistic Minister.
Fran never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family. She traveled throughout the U.S., Mexico, and the Basque Country to share in family celebrations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Tony. Fran is survived by her brothers Phil Jr. and Dave Uberuaga, her Tio Joe from Mexico, her children Cindy, Butch (Kathi), Marianne (Greg), Christian, and Mark (C.S.), as well as her grandchildren Zachary, Cody, Ashleigh, Amaia, Kaylie, Danny, Josh, and Jake, and her great grandchildren Colby, Hallie, and Ashten.
