Fermin Caballero, age 89 passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at home in Stockton, California. He was born on June 7, 1929 in Orbaiceta, Spain and shortly after birth his family moved to Esterencuby, France where he was raised.
For a short time he worked as a Lumberjack in Landes, France and making espadrilles (shoes) before returning to Esterencuby, France. He was married to his first wife Monique Maitia (1956-1968). He moved to the United States in 1957. He lived in Redwood City for 34 years. He was a gardner and 10 years before retirement he worked at Menlo College as a Custodian. He married his current wife Alba Caballero (Sanchez) in 1974 and they retired to Stockton, California in 1994.
He loved getting together with his family. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, he loved to watch his grafts from one tree to another grow and produce fruit. He always had plenty of fruit and vegetables for friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing, when he was younger, you could find him on old San Mateo Bridge fishing with family and friends. He was a loving father, uncle and grandfather.
He is preceded by: his father and mother: Jose and Ambrosia (Jolis); his brothers and sisters: Pedro Caballero, Donicio Caballero, Jesus Caballero, Raymond Caballero, Casamira Skowronek, Natividad Skowronek, Marie Acheritogaray, Basilia Caballero, Bonifacia Goalard; his daughter: Jacqueline Marie Caballero; his nephews: Rene Caballero, Jean Caballero, Denis Caballero
He is survived by his wife Alba Caballero (Sanchez); daughter and husband, Rosemary and Fred Larraburu; step-daughter and husband, Ana Delia and Rafael Lantigua; grandchildren and spouses: Jennifer and Douglas Branshaw, Patrick and Ryan Larraburu, Jonathan Larraburu; step granchildren: Rosalba and Jason McCoy, Carmen and Baldonix Rodriguez; great grandchildren: Laryssa Branshaw, Hannah Branshaw, Ireland Larraburu; step great grandchildren: Khloey McCoy, Katelyn McCoy, Kayleb McCoy; great niece and nephew: Amaia and Anthony Caballero; and many more nieces and nephews in France.
He will be missed by us all, but forever in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Services: January 28, 2019. DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton, Ca 95219. Visitation: 4pm - 6pm. Rosary: 6pm - 7pm January 29, 2019, St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 1571 Southgate Avenue Daly City, CA 94015. Funeral Mass at 10:30 am followed by burial service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 1500 Mission Road Colma, California 94014.
