Daga Acheritogaray (Collén) passed away peacefully on May 2nd, after a battle with dementia.
Daga was born (1929) and raised on the island of Strängö in Sweden, where her parents had a fishing business. As a young adult, Daga moved to Stockholm, were she found work in various occupations and then immigrated to London in 1960 to work for a private family. A few years later, Daga immigrated to the United States, settling in San Francisco and working in the travel industry and for a prominent San Francisco family.
In 1970 Daga married her love Alphonse, a native of the Basque Country and they settled in San Francisco's Richmond District. They enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family and socializing in the Basque, French and Swedish communities. Daga especially enjoyed gardening and feeding the waterfowl at nearby Mountain Lake.
Daga was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Alphonse, by her parents, David Collén & Emma Nordin, her sister Ada Nyholm and is survived by her niece Berit Svanberg and grandnieces Chatrin Svanberg & Susanne Lindström.
A service will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 1st at 2:00pm at Norwegian Seaman's Church, 2454 Hyde St, San Francisco, CA 94109.
