In loving memory of Tony Mendive who passed peacefully on Monday May 6, 2024, at the age of 89 with family in his Pocatello home. Tony is survived by his wife Mila along with their children Johnny, Julie, Mike (Jamie), and David (Nicole).
Tony joins his second child, Henry, who passed away at three months.
Tony came to the United States at 17 years old from the Spanish region of the Basque Country in 1952. Tony herded sheep for 10 years while saving money to come to study at ISU where he learned English, welding, and earned his citizenship.
Two years later Tony met his bride Mila while visiting Basque Country for the first time after immigrating. Tony Passed with Mila at his side after 57 years of loving marriage.
Tony was a devoted Catholic and proud Knight of Columbus.
The loving couple raised their family in Pocatello. Tony's children and his nine grandchildren are where he derived his greatest joy. Tony's tremendous garden and orchard was a source of pride from which he shared the bounty with all the willing takers. He also loved to gather and split firewood to keep the house somewhere between warm and absurdly hot during the winter months.
A service will be held on Tuesday May 14th at St. Joseph's Church located at 439 N. Hayes in Pocatello, Idaho.
