Angie (Echevarria) Ancho
Angelines 'Angie' (Echevarria) Ancho (Aug. 28, 1928 - Aug. 3, 2024)

08/03/2024 - Blackfoot, Idaho, USA

Angie Ancho passed away peacefully at her home on August 3, 2024 in Blackfoot Idaho.

Angie was born Aug. 28, 1928 to Frank and Carmen Echevarria and grew up on the family farm with her two brothers John and Frank. While growing up on the farm her parents instilled in her the importance of hard work, generosity, love of family, music and country.

Angie graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1946. She then attended Idaho State University where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education. While at ISU she was Rodeo Queen in 1947, May Queen in 1949, and met her future husband Joe.

After graduation Joe and Angie married on Aug.13, 1950. She started her teaching career in 1950 and taught until they opened Ancho Drug in 1959. In 1959 they also welcomed their son Michael to their family.

They ran Ancho Drug for 24 years, and sold it in 1983. After the drug store, Angie returned to teaching and was awarded Teacher of the Year for year 1985-1986.

Angie was very proud of her Basque heritage. The summer of 1970 she traveled with a Basque studies group to the Basque country in Spain. During that time she met many family members that she kept close contact with for the rest of her life. She also learned and brought back traditional Basque dances and music to Blackfoot. Angie taught a group of soon to be Basque dancers. Her group including her four nieces, Cindy, Becky, Kathy, and Christy, performed around the local area with Angie playing the music on her accordion.

Angie loved to play music and was a very good organist and accordion player. She played the music for the Basque dancers, played piano for the Blackfoot DOES organization, and played organ for St. Bernard's Catholic Church. She also volunteered for many organizations. These groups included 55 Alive, DOES where she was awarded the DOES Loyalty Award in May of 2023, Soroptimist where she was awarded Women of Distinction in 1995, and Zonta where she was awarded Woman of Distinction in 1995.

Angie will be missed but never forgotten.

A rosary, DOES ceremony, and eulogy will be held at Hawker Funeral Home Aug. 23, 2024 at 6:00 PM followed by a viewing. Funeral service will be held at St. Bernard's Catholic Church on Aug. 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Angie's name to the Gooding Basque Association, PO box 517, Gooding ID 83330.
